    Top heavy

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Ithaca, NY

Prosthere are a lot of caring, dedicated employees and great clients. Ithaca is a cool place to live

ConsToo many managers. Some departments have more managers than employees with each employee reporting to someone different. No paid training. Raises barely cover cost of living increases.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a long hard look at some of your management and cut the dead weight. Invest in training and development.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I feel both valued and valuable here.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Ithaca, NY

ProsOne of the best things about this company is that everybody is willing to listen to each other, and constructive input is always accepted and considered even if it comes from other departments. The corporate policies foster a friendly and co-operative environment, allowing new employees to feel at home very quickly - which in turn maximizes everyone's productivity.

ConsIn my opinion, we too often operate on a 'slow and steady wins the race' philosophy - which has certainly positioned us well, but it would behoove us to go for the grand slam at times, rather than being content to hit singles all day long.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhile co-operation is strong here, I believe we still have some employee-specific skills and knowledge going to waste - let's continue to build solid internal communication so that we've exhausted internal possibilities and resources before we outsource any projects.

We got screwed out of overtime pay, and then we got screwed out of being compensated for it

Systems Support (Current Employee) Ithaca, NY

ProsLots of time on the road

ConsDidn't get paid for most of the time on the road. No pay for travel time or workdays longer than 12 hours (which were the norm). The position couldn't legally be a salaried job, so the company got sued and decided to only back-pay employees for the last year- meaning those of us who got screwed prior didn't get one red cent.

    Advice to Senior ManagementPay up.

Once you're hired you're stuck in that position with no opportunity for growth.

    (Current Employee) Ithaca, NY

ProsCBORD has a good benefits package. When you're hired you're giving 3 weeks of vacation. After 5 years it is bumped for 4 weeks and after 10 years it's up to 5 weeks. You have 12 sick days with 3 that can be used as personal days. This benefits package in regards to vacation/time-off is pretty good.

ConsThere's very little opportunity for growth within CBORD. Salaries are fairly low when you're hired and promotions/raises are very rarely given out. As of the end of 2010 the majority of the employees haven't received raises in about 3 years. There's very little recognition on a "job well done". Overall, management and senior management seem to care little about motivation.

The rest of the benefits package isn't so great. Healthcare costs aren't covered well by CBORD. The HR department is bad at negotiating healthcare agreements with insurance companies. This results in an almost yearly change in plans which usually results in your out of pocket cost going up.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to focus more on motivating their employees. It's understandable that budgets have been tight over the past few years, but small gestures are easy, cheap, and impactful. Opportunities for growth should be provided. The company tenor is such that a jolt of inspiration and vigor would be beneficial. Unfortunately no attempt has been made.

    A prison sentence

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Ithaca, NY

ProsGenerally, really like and enjoy the people I work with.

Job security, it is nice to know you have a job and it likely to be there tomorrow. Don't know how you can get fired, management seems completely unable to deal with a few extremely poor performing employees.

If you are unable to do your current job, you just get shuffled around the company while other employees pickup the slack with the same pay and lack of raises.

ConsPay. Three years with no raise. Work environment is very stressful, along with stress of trying to pay bills at home. Probably bringing home less money then when I started.

Apparently little value in human resources. A general feeling that you need Cbord more than Cbord needs you, and you are treated so.

Not hiring new employees, trying extremely hard not to fill vacant positions. Backbone employees continuously overworked, underpaid, with increasing responsibilities. Human resources are stretched too thin. Software products rushed out the door at very low quantity and not nearly finished in terms of 1st general release standards. If you are a customer, you are expected to Qa the products, or run the risk.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe level of apathy toward human resources and quality produces will affect the bottom line. Employee moral is generally very low.

Great place to work and outstanding people to be around.

    Implementation Representative (Current Employee)

ProsYou will have a flexible work schedule. Independent consulting service without the overhead and client search. Great product with outstanding support.

ConsYou will travel 80 to 90 percent of the time. Since the position is 30% commission, your vacation time is like a cut in pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview implementation structure to standardize projects and project phases to a more standard approach developed by the Project Management team.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS

    Support (Current Employee) Ithaca, NY

ProsThere is the potential for frequent work-related travel.

Cons60+ hour workweeks are the rule rather than the exception; Extremely low compensation; Zero growth potential; Turnover rate is less than six months; Extreme lack of resources, both human and information; Products often released before support is made aware, without documentation to clients or internal support.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a good look at the turnover rate and figure out why people leave so often. While the IT sector does have a higher than average turnover rate, CBORD's is much higher still. Treating employees as dispensable reflects poorly on your business model, both to clients and employees.

Manage by fear and intimidation is the name of their game.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsGreat coworkers and great customers.

ConsVery toxic environment. The attitude conveyed by management is that ALL employees are replaceable and disposable. Employees have extremely low morale - all of my coworkers are actively seeking other employment. Management is not interested in hearing the opinions of their employees. General attitude of management is "shut up and row". Pay and benefits are atrocious - well under industry standards. Used to be an awesome company - has taken a drastic nosedive in past 5-6 years. Losing a lot of valuable personnel, including a number of long-term employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you value and appreciate your employees, they will know it and work harder for you. Listen to them - they are the closest "ear" to your customers and often have really great ideas and suggestions.
