I worked at The Campus Special as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

They fly you to Chicago for a training conference which is really cool. You get to meet a lot of people and gain a lot of hands on B2B sales experience. It will absolutely help you get a job after graduating. Looks great on your resume. If you stick with this internship for the whole summer, the management at Campus Special does everything they can to help you get a job after completing this internship.

    Cons

No base pay, just commission. 10% for Account Executive. It would also be a lot better if your manager were located in the city you work in. All management interaction is done through phone calls/texts/emails/conference calls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers that can work around the campuses where the interns are selling.

I have been working at The Campus Special as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Managers work hard for their interns and will do what they can to make interns successful. The Chicago training conference was not only fun, but a great learning experience that is needed before going out on the job in whatever market you are in. If you work hard for them they will for surely make sure that you are taken care of.

    Cons

I wish I would have known that I had negotiating power before going out into the field. Solely commission based (with great bonus structure), so you get what you put into it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More role play at the training conference and tell interns straight up what they can do earlier on in summer.

    Pros

One of the hardest, yet rewarding experience I've ever had. You mainly work with your Regional Manager and are assigned territories. Your regional manager is always a phone call away to support you and guide you especially when you are dealing with a difficult client or just plain old having a bad day.

    Cons

You work on your own and some of the clients can be very difficult. Sometimes you would have to work beyond your usual work hours.

I worked at The Campus Special full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Fantastic learning experience with a company that gives you a lot of support and training. Managers were supportive and were always available to talk and guide you through your problems. If you work hard you will get a lot of the job and your managers will stick up for you when you need them. Campus Special has a good network of companies that you can be connected with after finishing the job.

    Cons

Long hours and high expectations for what amounted to little pay. It's a tough sales job that not everyone is cut out for. As many sales jobs are, this one can be tough on one's psyche, especially to people who do not have experience in the field.

    Pros

Great experience gaining and working with clients. I ended up in the top 5% of interns nationally and received over a dozen emails/calls to set up interviews with career partners.

    Cons

All of the career partners are looking for corporate sales jobs to be filled and that isn't what I want to do my whole life.

    Pros

    Career Partners
    Chau the CEO is Awesome
    Great On Resume
    Developing people skills
All expense paid trip to chicago
The sales training is very helpful in every career

    Cons

If your in an old market it sucks
some of the products like online ordering can be hard products to sell
Poor Commission Rate, they make a ton of money off their products and 10% is not enough to pay rent and feed yourself for the summer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give a bigger chunk of commission or compensate us for mileage. Working all summer to break even is no fun even if it does help us get a job after we graduate. Also try and find some career partners that aren't sales jobs. Just an Idea
