    Pros

Great benefits love working here, but there's a lot that has changed since I first started and there needs to be some changes In upper management if the company wants to be successful

    Cons

High turnover and hiring from outside the company hurts the business. Outside hires don't understand the workload and hours so they end up leaving. Others leave because they cannot advance due to outside hires. Lots of floorsets, updates, price changes etc workload is so high you can't focus on your business. They want you to reach your goals and numbers and you can't even take the time to focus on customers bc of the work.. They want you to be sales driven but that doesn't happen. They force you and hold you accountable for reaching their credit card goals and survey results.. Makes you question job security..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give internal candidates a chance. They understand the business and workload. Understand that in this economy not a lot of people want credit cards so don't make us feel like we have to pressure our customers to sign up.. They don't like it.. Also stop with all the updates. The floorsets should be done once a month and that's it! Don't need to redo a wall 5 times in a week!!! We want to focus on our customers so let us!

I have been working at The Children's Place full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great PTO and good Pay for Mgmt

    Cons

As someone who loves a very busy, challenging atmosphere, the workload is ridiculous. You do not get the chance to appreciate the work you have accomplished because corporate changes it just before the moment its due and doesn't change the due date. You are running around 100% of the time to attempt to keep up only to be told that you need to be at the same time talking to every customer multiple times on 2 person coverage with 1 of those 2 people ringing out customers the whole time, leaving one person to the customers and all the workload, and security from all the theft... . I never even hear from my DM-and when I do he is worried about dust bunnies! Really?!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give us payroll!!!! It means-more product processed, neater organized stores, and customer service. All of which means more $ for you. Instead of cutting payroll...how about cutting some of the crazy benefits given at the corporate level-unlimited sick time?? Never have I heard of such a thing prior. The insane workload for 1 person to handle really is ridiculous. It leaves employees without that sense of accomplishment. Do not totally change a floorset that has been worked on and prepped on for a week +, just hours before it is due and tell us "it is still due at the normal time..oh and you have to be out of the store 30 mins after closing and before opening, so do not use any extra hours to get the work done".

I have been working at The Children's Place part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I work with are more like family to me vs coworkers. Our discount is 30% off which helps if you have children.

    Cons

They don't give enough payroll to complete what they are asking of their employees. I feel like I work so hard and only get paid pennies. They only offer full time positions to store managers and assistant managers but require that you have open availability. The workload is always heavy and they always, ALWAYS send over updates to changes they originally put into place. They have no idea what is going on at the store level but wants every store to comply with every move, change, and /or request.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out what each individual store is in need of from the district manager, stop generalizing stores based off another that doesn't compare in sales, payroll or merchandise. Bring back transfers!!!!! It will help us push what is selling at our location. Consider offering more full time positions to seasoned associates.

Fast-Paced, Demanding Work with little to no recognition or acknowledgment from upper management - wage poor.

I have been working at The Children's Place full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The people, it is their passion and commitment that uphold the Co.

    Cons

No room for advancement, Co. is reactive not proactive in all areas, no recognition unless its taken upon yourself, compensation poor if not forgotten.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sieving money into unnecessary investments like the ridiculous weekly marketing changes that no one recognizes or appreciates - THAT JUST END UP IN THE TRASH! TRY RECYCLING SOMETHING! If you can manage to same a few dollars try to reinvest them in the associates, they have more than earned a raise or a pay increase something more than minimum wage - Burger King pays better than us!

I worked at The Children's Place full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Employee discount is good especially since it can be used on all sale and clearance.

    Cons

Senior mgt (DM, RM, and up) does not have a clue as to what it really takes to run a store. Between floor sets, price changes, shipment, and training employees there will never be enough time given to any area of need. They took away all training hours but expect you to fully train all new associates, leads, ect. Any down time available is usually spent on shipment or trying to complete the visual updates that they give every week. You aren't able to keep good associates around because of lack of hours. The competition is there with more hours and better pay. During peak times associates are too busy with pos transactions at the service desk helping other customers check out while the merchandise is walking out the door. They always give the hope of extra hours for back to school or holiday times but never follow through. Therefore customers are not given the attention they are truly needed on the sales floor. They expect you to push too much on the customer at the time of check out. It looses the personal side of the interaction of the sale with the customer when you have 8 or more things you have to upsell to the customer before they leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your team and trust their decisions. Give back the training budget and hours for holiday. You'll gain it back with the merchandise that sells instead of it walking out the door unpaid.

I have been working at The Children's Place full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

PTO is bountiful, higher pay scale than most for management, great connections with awesome customers (both internal and external), great product!

    Cons

High expectations with small time frames (and little payroll of course), constant changes to floor sets and sale changes that make absolutely no sense, no sense of accomplishment due to never being "done", discount was great until the customer coupons started matching employee discount, selling a Citibank backed in-store credit card that offers very little incentive for the customer (5%...really?)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure it out people! The company direction is going the wrong way...you need to build a structured communication system and stick with it. Nobody knows the "why" of what we are doing and that feels unstable and chaotic.

I worked at The Children's Place full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great team within my own location as well as a couple of my fellow SSM's.

    Cons

Outrageous expectations and absolutely no support to get the heavy workload completed. Unqualified upper management. Micro managing experienced, successful SSM's to the point of complete frustration. Pay is way below industry standard. No positive recognition...but there is plenty of time for negative recognition. You make company issued plans, work your tail off to beat them, only to have them set them higher and higher so there is no possible way for you to make bonus or have a successful review at the end of the year. You're told to get your store perfect for VP visit...do what it takes...only to be told AFTER the visit "No one should work 12 hour days for a visit prep, your stores should be that perfect all the time" no "thank you for the hard work"...nothing. Completely unmotivational.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're setting up your store management up for failure. Managers take their jobs seriously, work hard, give you good results and the only thanks is..."Now we want even more from you. Here are your new, out of reach goals" You will continue to lose great management, at a rapid rate, until you get this under control. Hire qualified leaders (District Managers) that actually know how to lead a team. Not "favorite" SSM's with no people skills.

I have been working at The Children's Place full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Offers health insurance, two weeks of paid time off, 30% off everything including clearance, flexible schedules including up to two weekends off a month, and holiday pay.

    Cons

Company cut their budget on payroll so we are working with only two people in the store at all times which means we don't get bathroom breaks or breaks at all; This also makes it easier for theft. Old registers and old technology which makes the selling and return process very slow. No process on training which leads to under performing management and staff. To many price points in the store which leads to confusion and frustration from the customers. Lots of time and money wasted on changing prices every Monday night, sometimes the price changes one cent. Money wasted on marketing for the window and signage on the sales floor, used for one week then tossed in the trash. Customer service is horrible due to the only two employees working are on the registers and nobody is on the sales floor. Keep in mind, the store is running with only two people in the store at one time so no extra hours are given for tasks including training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate makes decisions that are not in the company's best interest, before making changes YOU should work in a store for thirty days before implementing the changes. Company should focus on customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction before before making poor decisions based on profit margins.
