I have been working at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Work in a setting where you can freely have Gospel conversations
In a setting where you can meet new people and learn a lot from them
    Low stress situation
    Flexible time schedule

    Cons

It is very challenging to progress and be promoted
Most of the work is very monotonous
Some of management can be self-righteous and demeaning to employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It feels there is a major lack of communication between us and management on expectations and overall vision of projects. Be clear in what you want to see be delivered.

I worked at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

The people are great to work with. You never need to worry that the content being produced is not great.

    Cons

It's difficult to move up in the company or even get a full time job, which means there are no benefits. Some managers are very busy and don't delegate well so some problems take a long time to get fixed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice to have some better opportunities for on-call employees to get full-time jobs.

    Good place to work

I worked at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (more than an year)

    Pros

Great work environment, very people oriented, friendly co-workers, impactful work

    Cons

Since it is not profit based, some lower end managers were completely incompetent. Clearly had no idea what they were doing and even upper management would admit they they were causing problems, but said they couldn't fire them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If someone is hindering the work by not being competent, let them go. They can find work elsewhere, don't be a crutch of employment for them.

I worked at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great environment, variety of technical challenges, loved my team, felt very welcome. Mentorship was huge and very well-developed, I always knew there were senior employees looking out for me. 5-star internship.

    Cons

A bit slow at times due to bureaucratic layers, but I like to run a more fast-paced rate of work than most. Intern compensation is a bit below other going rates in the area, however that seems to be a given when it comes to this particular employer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep offering interns mobility to make sure they find the right fit!

I have been working at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The environment is extremely positive and supportive. The company values are set so clearly and based in scripture. The work-life balance is excellent, you will rarely work more than 40 hours in a week. They are also flexible if you want to come early and leave early or vice-versa.

    Cons

It will take a while to be promoted. You will have to work a bit extra for an innovative idea to be passed on and enacted. Some people have been there so long they have lost a lot of drive so things can move very slowly. The culture in theory is ideal. In practice, it is a little slow and stagnate.

    Work/life balance.

    Cons

Not all the management is as good as mine was.
    FTE positions seem slim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great work. Non that I can think of.

I worked at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to work with a wonderful sense of purpose. Work colleagues are among the finest in any workplace I have been.

    Cons

Poor work/life balance, though tremendously rewarding career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mid-level managers are not always responsive to team member concerns. It seems as if they are more interested in building their careers, often at the expense of everyone around them. Because the Church is hierarchal in structure, senior managers tend to side with mid- and lower-level managers when team members voice concerns. This leaves many individuals feeling harassed and without an advocate.

I have been working at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

A sense of mission and shared goals. This is a family-friendly place to work. You will have a sense of being part of a larger worldwide effort.

    Cons

Managers are people first and Church members second. Most are very good to work with but there are some you may have personality conflicts with. Take off the rose-colored glasses and do your best work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your people, not just to your directors. You may be getting a filtered message. I have had many experiences with this kind of bottom up filtering. You may think that your experience and opinion are obvious but then you will be surprised when decisions are made.

    Pros

I've been able to work on meaningful projects here and there have been great people to work with.

    Cons

Like any big organization, there are politics. Innovation is hard to accomplish here with all the red tape.
