    Prosflexible, easy work, great discounts
The people are a pleasure to work with and be around. Work/life balance is good. Company has good values. The work was good experience and I learned a lot

    ConsHolidays can get pretty stressful.
Low on pay, a lot of politics/bureaucracy. Some people have been at Gap Inc. for TOO LONG. Time for more fresh blood.

Advice to Senior ManagementTone from the top - you need people in leadership roles that people can look up to. You should build in core, fundamental leadership requirements for people at the VP+ levels and not promote people or retain them if they don't demonstrate those competencies.

Can get promoted fast, but starting to see the glass ceiling.

Assistant Customer Experience Manager (Current Employee)

ProsAs long as you show great work ethic and an enthusiasm to learn more, you can move up in management at a reasonable pace. They do a pretty good job at cross-training employees.

ConsNot a very high paying job considering how many cross-functional duties you have, how much multi-tasking you do on a daily basis on little to no coverage because you have to balance your payroll, and the very odd hours that don't help with work-life balance.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) McAllen, TX

ProsGood discount, plenty of hours. Most Gap locations are clean and organized however the one I worked in was not.

ConsDidn't like co-workers, they were not very helpful when starting out. Pay wasn't much either.

    Mixed bag.

    Assistant Manager (Current Employee)

ProsGood coworkers, good discount, fair paid time off.

ConsIf you are in management you will be married to your job. Even though paid time off is more generous than most competitors, there is little time away from work without a phone call, text, etc. Hours are extremely low compared to other customer service focused retailers. In smaller stores management has to do their jobs plus the jobs of employees most of the time since hours are so tight. Although GAP is good at keeping up with changes in the industry, the company is often too quick to act. They don't work out the kinks in anything before rolling something new out. Technology changes are riddled with errors/glitches. LRT (laser radio terminal) guns are always malfunctioning. I cannot remember a day in the last 6 months where there was not at least one glitch in technology.

Advice to Senior ManagementEither give more hours to stores or lower your expectations. When you do something good for employees like raising the minimum wage, don't milk that for every last bit of PR you can get--it looks like you're desperate for attention. Consider increasing wages for management at a time that employees are getting increases--its disheartening for managers to see their own pay stagnating at a time when they are held accountable for more than ever before.
