The people I worked with are all very friendly and positive. The benefits I received was the 50% off employee discount. I really enjoyed working at the Gap. I felt like my managers genunitely cared about me.

I have been working at The Gap

    Pros

The people are very friendly and it is a well run company. If you put in the days you need off in advance they will do their best to meet your request. Also, the discount is pretty great!

    Cons

At certain times your hours can be low. I was often getting four hour shifts and sometimes if it was not busy they would send me home after two hours.

    I worked at The Gap

    Pros

The employees, managers, and bosses, in my experience, were the most friendly and caring people. They truly care about their employees.

    Cons

Upward advancement is hard because you need 5 years of management experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to employees especially in acting management position when looking for full time managers. We know what we are doing more than someone completely new to the company.

    Pros

Great Pay, Great Opportunities, and wonderful associates. They have excellent benefits and outstanding discount. Great communication from head office with clear and direct expectations.

    Cons

Hours can be long on weekends as I worked in a high volume store and the store had to be 100% clean so we would not be able to leave sometimes until 11:30pm when the store closed at 9pm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the upper management is outstanding.

I have been working at The Gap full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Fun People
    Good culture
    Work Life balance
A product you can be proud of

    Cons

Difficult to climb the ladder, you have to wait for an open position and likely the most senior person will get it.
Talent isn't rewarded as much as at other companies. You get small raises and bonuses.
Like all big companies, your experience will depend on your team and your boss
In the big brands like Old Navy and Gap, there's lots of red tape to make a decision

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize talent instead of just tenure
Try to make processes more simple, not more complicated!

    Pros

Great discount nice people to work with when the workload of the store is heavy hours are good

    Cons

Lots of favoritism you have to buss your butt to advance uppity management don't make this your main source of income

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give all of your employees who show a real passion in their work a chance to advance. Stop showing so much favoritism that's how u lose good employees. Nobody's gonna wanna come to work if they aren't appreciated
