I have been working at The Hartford full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits were great. Hartford prides themselves on great quality of work, "outsourcing" does not reflect that.

    Cons

Promotions were given to chosen favorites. Training was not always available as promised.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be aware of what their "consultants" are doing in lieu of micro managing the lower level employees.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The training for positions is acceptable and does prepare you for the technical portion of your job. Associates are very nice.

    Cons

No preparation for the phone portion of the job. No in-house HR support (all done via email and phone - thus lack of face to face contact). Receive contradictory information from management and then get dinged on QA. Management does not support staff - only themselves. Some management should not be in their positions - they don't have the skills necessary to be an effective manager and staff suffers. Creates poor moral!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house and put leadership skilled people in management positions!!! Moral will increase and so will production. Understand phone work is difficult and do what is necessary to decrease the stress associated with that job. Be honest and consistent! The lack of integrity is disturbing!

I worked at The Hartford full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Thorough and succinct training program; mentors can be great; pay is decent, though lower than similar positions in the industry as The Hartford does not require reps to have a Series 6.

    Cons

No Series 6 leaves reps with a lack of basic financial industry understanding; management is crazy about micromanaging time; new hires basically have a babysitter watching their every move; manager for new hires is remote; short breaks don't allow enough time to decompress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating your employees like children. Stop basically requiring overtime.

Management tightening the ropes too much- very stressful, production times inadequate

    I worked at The Hartford

    Pros

    good benefits, generous vacation time

    Cons

no flex time, micro-managed, excessive workloads & insufficient time to complete work, employee moral has decreased over the last 5 years (no time for team meetings or anything benefiting employee relations)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a step back, listen to employees, find a happy medium between over efficiency & the real world of keeping happy & productive employees

    Pros

The Hartford is an honest company and promotes this throughout their workforce.

    Cons

Slow to provide employees with current evaluation of their work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reviews or audits of your work should be provided to the employee upon Management's receipt, not 2, 3, 4 months later.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people are good to work withe and the benefits are great.

    Cons

The pay is low compared to other companies in the industry. You are promised the world as long as your numbers are good when you first start, but none of it ever happens. You can have the best numbers in the state (which I did at one time), but they will still not work with you on anything. Also seems that when you try to post out to another position in the company, it is harder if you are stellar at your current job. Turnover is extremely high because of the way that employees are taken advantage of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In the call center, there are no breaks from the phone other than unit meetings, if these even happen at all. Half of the time it is too busy and they take them away. Also, call center employees do not feel like they are actually a part of the company. We are not allowed to go to any of the Town Hall Meetings because we have to stay on the phone. This makes you feel segregated from the rest of the company. I know that it is possible to ensure that other sites can pick up the slack during the short period of time so that employees can participate once in a while.

    Pros

The Monday thru Friday work week

    Cons

Their 10:30am-7:00pm nonsense shift, training was not long enough to learn the job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the staff that you do have. There was too much time spent on "fitness" programs, wellness, work/life balance and trying to make a semi happy employee happier by pretending to fit the employees needs. There was very little time spent learning the material in training (8 weeks), training information was irrelevant once employees were actually in production and upper management of service center was too involved in their own issues to figure out that their staff was struggling.

    Pros

Great Co-workers. great office location. ability to work from home.

    Cons

micromanaged like crazy. case loads are too large. you have to work 46 hours per week to keep within standards, but are paid for 40-hours. managers override nurse clinicians constantly. new procedures are rolled out without being tested. different offices have different claims management procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your nurses' and adjusters' work. Enough with the micromanagement. Really use Six Sigma methodology, don't just pretend. Beta test before implementing new procedures. stop sending work from other offices to the Atlanta and Minneapolis offices to clean up. Advice to home office: you have way to many managers, you can make due with half the number.

    Pros

Free parking, free fitness center, onsite health clinic

    Cons

The Company has been around forever but poor management caused the company to underperform and the morale since the stock market crash has been terrible. Layoffs looming constantly, hiring outisde the company rather than promoting from within when there are positions to fill
