I worked at The Home Depot full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Opportunities to move up
    - Good programs like Team Depot, Kids Club, and Orange Embrace
    - Everyone loves all the great things at Home Depot

    Cons

    - Employees are seen as an infinite resource
    - Assistant Managers are expected to work minimum 55 hours a week
    - Little flexibility (unless your fellow ASMs are super willing to help)
    - Short memory for positive, Long memory for perceived negatives
    - District management haven't actually worked in the stores

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Understand the strengths of your employees and try and get the most out of them.
    - Stop firing and threatening firing people as an attempt to increase productivity

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

401K match, sick & vacation time, bi-annual bonus, stock options & health insurance.

    Cons

Upper management politics and favoritism. Shady hiring practices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire and appreciate people who will work, not who just look good on paper with little-to-no people skills. Be more personable and honest.

I worked at The Home Depot

    Pros

Decent pay for the manual labor
    Good part-time employee benefits
    Ability to move up

    Cons

Most leader positions are employees who moved up, so business knowledge is lacking.
Very much a "good ol' boy" type of environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make your employees happy and want to succeed in your company, not just fearing to lose their job.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

you can contribute to your 401k after 3 months as a part timer, you get a schedule 2 and a half to 3 weeks ahead of time that you can look up anytime on the internet which is very convenient compared to other companies

    Cons

the worst part about this job is they dont train you at all they just toss you in a department (for example sometimes i've had shifts in lumber alone and gotten questions i knew nothing about), 6 hour shifts you get only 1 break, wage is low end (min wage or a quarter over), little paid time off at all for part time workers, and of course we are understaffed often and customer service takes a hit from that

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay your employees more, train your employees before throwing them around, understand how many employees you need at a time.. sometimes we are overstaffed or just right but 75% of the time we are always understaffed...

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The work isnt to hard, Will work with you if you have a school schedule, Some customers are good to talk to, can get dental and vision benefits

    Cons

Doesnt pay a lot, Very rude customers sometimes, lost medical benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk with all associates from the store to the MET team to find out what is going on. A lot of people dont know what the MET team does and are constantly at odds. Supposed to be a great place to work but when you are looking over your shoulder all the time to see who's watching you, work no longer is a good place to be.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company values are excellent and if you have a good leader, you will have a wonderful experience. It is a large company and there are many opportunities to learn a great deal.

    Cons

The culture within HR is to speak about work-life balance but it is a challenge to find someone here who has it. Management clearly has favorites and there is a great deal of blaming others for mistakes. Honesty is a death sentence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review and analyze turnover and FMLA leaves to ascertain the health of each department.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The starting pay is good. They work very well with your schedule if you're in school or have another job.

    Cons

I didn't feel like there is opportunity for growth because I've been there for two years and I worked in appliances for Black Friday for both of us who years that I was there they say they like me but and I had high sales but they never seem like they wanted to take me out of the position of being a cashier. They never posted jobs when they became available in they would just go up to people and ask them if they want to job in Hiram on the spot never do I interview or anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the assistant managers and department heads are very nasty and distasteful. They should have a better attitude and they should also respect the cashiers.
