I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Beyond everything it's a big box retail store. Wages are fair, above minimum. The one thing I enjoy about HomeDepot is the lax atmosphere, dress code isn't too strict (jeans/khakis and collared shirt). You can pick up some very useful skills for the future if you ever plan to own a home.

    Cons

Depends on the store but managment can be very iffy. Some assistant managers can be super stars and others can be outright lazy. Monday's are the worst when every member of management disappears for hours for a Monday meeting DURING peak hours.

    Pros

Tuition reimbursement, 401k match of 3% for your own 5%, can move up relatively quickly, homer fund helps employees in need.

    Cons

Low starting pay, scheduling isn't consistent (nor makes any since at all), management turnover (they transfer from store to store often), no incentive to become licensed on equipment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You all to often lose great/valuable employees because of pay.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I love the work I do. So when it comes to work, I have the ability to do pretty much as I please. Management allows me to over work what I want because of my production.

    Cons

There are individuals in positions above you that don't know what they are doing. Judging an individual on their work when they dont know how to do their own job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know your job before trying to tell someone else how to do their job.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked at The Home Depot as a part-time bookkeeper while attending college. Management and HR were very accommodating of my schedule and personable/easy to work with for the most part. I was able to participate in the tuition reimbursement program (now discontinued) for three years, and otherwise would have struggled a lot financially to get through college, so I'll always be grateful for that opportunity. Working in the back office meant lots of privacy, no orange apron, and very little to no customer interaction, which made for a very quiet and comfortable work environment.

    Cons

I wish the tuition reimbursement program had not been discontinued. It was such a benefit to me and, I think, attracted and retained more talented employees. Performance reviews were given regularly, but raises were either nonexistent or in very small increments across the board, from what I heard and personally experienced. I was also a cashier for the first year of my employment - a position within the company that I would not recommend.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold sales floor associates accountable and ensure that they're around and available to answer customer questions, as opposed to hiding out. If the customers can't find help in the departments, they bring their (justified) frustrations to special services, returns, and/or the cashiers, who don't deserve to be punished for sales floor associates' lack of diligence. This was a common problem in our store and was largely my motivation for pursuing a transfer to the back office.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Friendly, positive and welcoming work environment, hard work is appreciated by management, flexible hours, competitive pay for job in college as a cashier, paid sick time and vacation for part time employees.

    Cons

There is not a lot of room for fast growth, the people in lower and middle management have been with the company for at least a decade
