Very politically charged. Not good for long-term career development.

I have been working at The Medicines Company full-time

    Pros

Good salary. Good autonomy. Broad experience. Some great colleagues to learn from.

    Cons

A great deal of political nepotism. People are promoted based on friendships, as opposed to merit. Strategy changes on a quarterly basis. Poor leadership. Management talks a good game, but lack organization and follow through.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need new leadership in Americas. Lack of organization.

    Pros

Competitive Salary and Benefits. Working remote is well accepted and virual teams are strong. Very fast-paced and generally interesting roles. Global community of very talented people. Great opportunities to learn from your colleagues.

    Cons

Politically restraining. Who you don't challenge is key to survival. Generally people learn to keep their head down. Weaker product pipeline than one would want. One repeated observation - the closer you move to the top, the shorter your time with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Code of conduct needs to apply to you too.

I worked at The Medicines Company

    Pros

Opportunity for broad experience that you wouldnt typically get at other companies (but dont expect to get paid for it)

    Cons

Often a reactionary place to work. Employees on call all week (weekend emails) - poor work/life balance. Headquarters not thoughtful for European colleagues (conference calls late at night).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Constantly revisiting decisions marginalises employees and wastes time. Trust in the people that you hired, if you dont, trust them, fire them!
