Current Employee – been working at The Medicines Company

Pros – They are Very focused on the science and outcomes of heart disease. They are committed to heart disease. They create opportunities for scientists.

Cons – Because of how small the company is, it is such a politically charged environment, with an extremely concentrated power base, and few checks and balances on executives. Owing to the founder, they are very skewed towards British culture and values. There is a pretty clear caste system, and quite a bit of bigotry as well. Not a great career path outside of physicians. They are still learning the pharmaceutical business and while they are huge in their specialty market, it is often surprising the types of mistakes they make given the pharma talent they have tried to recruit. Despite high potential for their products, I have not held on to my stock because of the uncertainty, and some concern regarding management talent currently on board.

Advice to Senior Management – Sometimes founders aren't always the best leadership for the company.

Cons – New drug taken off market
Downsized 80% of the company
Poor leadership in CEO
