I have been working at The UPS Store part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you are a young adult looking for a retail job that has more importance and requires more acquired knowledge, then The UPS Store is a good start. You interact with 20-100 people on a daily basis and handle everything from domestic and international shipping, to intricate packaging and print center tasks.

    Cons

Like any retail job, the day can become incredibly boring. This isn't a negative to The UPS Store but to any job that requires maintaining a sales floor for extended hours. The pay doesn't progress too much since it is a first-time-job-esque occupation, but if you work hard for a couple years then you can make a manager position. Benefits aren't applicable unless you work full-time and for over a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall the management in the Boston store locations is pretty good. I don't think anything else can be expected from a retail job, so not too much to say.

    Pros

Flexibility in schedule. Manageable work load. Great people to work with.

    Cons

Must be able to deal with conflict, customers are not always happy when there packages don't arrive on time or in one piece, which is out of your control because you do not deliver the packages.

I worked at The UPS Store part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You get to interact with a lot of people. Learning - The shipping industry may be a factor in many other jobs, and it has helped me greatly to have some shipping background in my own business.

    Cons

People aren't always expecting to pay so much. You might have to deal with claims. Christmas time is madness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This system seems to work as is it is. For store owners, I think it is important to pay staff well and provide them with training - not the computer training, actually show them what to do. I learned a lot on my own, but I was hired for the manager's position at more than minimum wage.

  7. It was just "OK."

I worked at The UPS Store part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I worked at a franchise branch, not the corporate office, as a sales associate for about eight months before having to leave to focus on my last year in college.
Because it's a small store, all employees have the opportunity get to know one another. It's just up to the individual to make that a positive experience or not.
Overall, the experience was a good one.

    Cons

Compared to other jobs, it's pretty physically demanding and I personally feel the compensation does not reflect that. Management was also abysmal. The manager completely abused their power and the owners of the store did not find out until all the employees threatened to quit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Owners of each franchise store should keep a close eye on their store managers and actually involve themselves more by casually asking their employees how everything is.

I have been working at The UPS Store full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

One of the perks of working for UPS Store Inc is the brand and reputation for what we stand for. We are a big company and are at the fore front of shipping and logistics

    Cons

As with all big companies, has its fair share of bureaucratic moments. Also, shipping in the stores is a declining market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some of the management work in the centers to see how their so called action plans work. Also, just working in the centers just to see how its like owning a center while trying to make money.

I worked at The UPS Store full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay for retail, nice hours, holidays off, paid vacation, not excessively micromanaged.

    Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Since it is a franchise, your mileage may vary. Don't expect all the perks listed above. Corporate has arbitrary rules that they adhere to mercilessly. Little room to grow. Crazy holiday hours.

I have been working at The UPS Store part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work environment. The work is easy and the days are short. It's a great job for a college kid.

    Cons

There is no room for growth. You are either a manager or sales associate. This is a franchise and not direct UPS, so although it looks good you won't be going anywhere.

    No insurance.
    No paid vacation.
    One Christmas bonus a year.
    Underpaid employees.
