    Great First Job

Community Associate (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsFree food and lots of swag. Open start up type environment.

ConsPay is not high. Company at times seemed to mismanage and waste money.

Advice to Senior ManagementCutting back on unnecessary expenses and raising salaries will pay off in the long run.

most fun place I've worked yet

Software Engineer (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat people. Mostly a no fluff technical team with strong developers heavily invested in Uncle Bob's Software Craftsmanship concepts and a service oriented architecture. They are also getting into responsive design, a thicker JavaScript style web client and iOS development.

Free snacks and unlimited vacation for salaried employees. Plenty of people hitting the local bars after work. Mostly young crowd.. don't think anyone who works there is over 45.

ConsAs you can expect no place is perfect. There are often struggles to balance engineering perfection with business needs and requested deadlines. A number of expensive product and service experiments were performed over the past few years which produced little to no revenue results. In 2012 most of these were terminated and the focus has returned to the core offering.

Advice to Senior Managementcontinue to make much smaller bets with your experiments and really determine what your customers want

Innovative and fun place to work with lots of potential

Human Resources (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsSure, the snack and game rooms are perks but there are so many other pros to working at TheLadders.com. The environment is great- spacious, bright, clean and the people are intelligent, warm and friendly. This is a place that you can certainly feel like you are on team. The company does a fantastic job in educating everyone where management wants to take the company, what initiatives we are taking, challenges that we face as well as what we are doing to correct it and how to be further progressive in our culture and products. Compensation is more than fair and any time that I have ever requested off has been approved. The customer service model which TheLadders uses is top notch and there is tremendous growth potential with some of the products that are being released.

ConsAlthough one has much to learn as a professional at TheLadders, the opportunity to advance from within can be somewhat limited due to career progression structures.

Advice to Senior ManagementRe-vamp career progression opportunities <-- this is already in the works...

Fun atmosphere, above average compensation, high level of respect, great employees and management.

Junior Talent Specialist (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsThe number one reason to work at TheLadders.com is the people. They hire some of the greatest folks out there who quickly become lifelong friends. The compensation is above average, with pay increases and promotions expected for doing great work. Lateral and horizontal career movements are also expected and promoted. Everyone from the interns to the CEO is treated with the same amount of respect, and regardless of your level, everyone is treated as an equal when it comes to great ideas, social situations, and input (among many other things). The atmosphere is young and fun to keep up with how dynamic and every-changing the company is. All in all, a great place to work that treats employees well. Lots of social company outings.

ConsEmployees expect to change positions and departments, so there is always a LOT of internal interest in job openings. Employees tend to have a fast turnover rate, due in part to so many young people working at the company (average age is probably 26).

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work. The management is chosen for a reason, and it shows. The management has a high level of respect for employees beneath them, and work well to make people know they are appreciated and their voices are heard.

TheLadders.com is a software-driven company where developers can really make an impact.

Software Engineer (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsGreat benefits--stocked, free kitchen, "unlimited" vacation, 401k matching.
The company regularly celebrates its achievements with paid parties and entertainment.
Work with really smart, talented software engineers. TheLadders "only hires A+ candidates."
Software engineers have the ability to work collaboratively with product to suggest new ideas for features. You're more than a code monkey, and your opinions really matter and are taken seriously.
Regular meetings with your manager to discuss concerns, goals, and achievements.
There are lots of safety nets for quality. Code reviews, functional tests, and unit tests are all mandatory.
Adoption of agile software development methodology really shines.

ConsSome teams get more "fun" work to do than others, although teams do shuffle occasionally.
There seems to be a bit of a high turnover rate, but everyone that leaves does so for excellent opportunities elsewhere and not usually because they're unhappy at TheLadders.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe management team is doing a great job. Mark's enthusiasm and passion has a ripple effect that is palpable throughout the organization.

    Smart Colleagues, Important Mission

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVery strong technology team, exciting future, low BS, great snackroom, strong financials, helping people get jobs feels good, more focused product vision in 2013. All developers switching to macbook pros, 30 inch monitors all around. Lots of learning opportunities in tech. Technology used: Java, Scala, iOS, Storm, RabbitMQ, Membase, Memcache, Clustrix, Backbone, Sass, Puppet, Varnish, Mercurial.

ConsHard to lose weight with the snacks. Lots of change in 2012, but settling down and new direction looks promising.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the pedal down and stay focused.

    Great growing experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Prosthe people who work there are amazing.
    Very fun, while professional environment.
Plenty of constructive criticism/feedback to help individuals grow professionally.

ConsUnpredictable industry right now, with everything that is happening with the push towards social media as an effective way for people to find jobs. It's just hard to predict what will happen to the job board industry, if anyone can come out ahead of the game it will be the team at TheLaddders
