I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good place for people who have families and prefer work/life balance; upper management is friendly; new facility is nice and so is the free coffee

    Cons

Slow-paced and industry is a bit boring

I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits. Great flexibility in work schedule.

    Cons

No job satusfaction. Bogged down by paperwork.

    Advice to Management

Don't make engineering decisions without consulting the engineers.

  3. Great company vision and leadership at the top, but poor execution at local level.

I worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

"Make the world healthier, cleaner and safer" - who can argue against that mission? The framework is there for it to be an excellent company. If Waltham HQ knew how things are being executed at a local level, I do not think they would be happy. However, as long as the numbers look good, no one in Waltham looks too closely at how the individual businesses are really running.

    Cons

Very political middle management. Toxic employees are promoted or passed along to become someone else's problem instead of getting managed out. Incompetent people are able to hide in plain sight for years. Heartless HR.

    Advice to Management

Take a closer look at how the businesses are hitting their numbers. Is cutting staff quarter after quarter after quarter really the best way to show profitability?

    Pros

Great benefits, company culture very nice, involved in social responsibility with giving back to the company by doing volunteer work. Donating time in School Districts. Creates Development Plan for Career Growth.

    Cons

Middle Management should work with Employees more directly. Do not allow another non-management to access the performance of an employee. Management needs more grooming. Management should know the system to better guide Employees in Direction

    Advice to Management

Have a better check and balances on Career Development Plan, and make sure that Managers are following all standard policy around it. Do not give an employee goals mid way through a 90 day plan.

I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A transnational company that mandates a standardized process improvement training to promote understanding and communication among colleagues. This is extremely critical for a company that grows by merger and acquisitions.

    Cons

Company adopts LEAN management like most companies. Consequently, projects are behind because of inadequate resources and unrealistic milestones.

    Advice to Management

In order to maintain the industry leadership position in scientific instrument, Supply Chain should focus on quality not costs.

    Pros

Was acquired by thermo and they took care of folks who they spun out. They placed you with the closest team that was like your current position.

    Cons

Management team did not work well for remote team members and was extremely slow for change/improvements.

I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Thermo Fisher is a large global company, as such I often work with colleagues in other countries and as a small contributor to a large global change.

    Cons

This is a large company that is moving fast, but not always finishing projects cleanly before moving on to the next. This results in regular, frustrating, rework.

    Advice to Management

Retain more top talent by giving meaningful projects to help employees further professional goals and do not enforce a policy that forces Managers to always rate a percent of employees as not meeting needs.
