I have been working at Thomas & Betts full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - The starting pay is decent, but that is useless after a year or two because raises are next to nothing
    - Probably looks good on a resume

    Cons

    - Raises are 1 to 3%, even when you achieve all of your "goals", it gets you nothing
    - Management is horrible
    - Scheduling is horrible
    - Procedures are horrible
    - HR is a joke
    - Their "Continuous Improvement" efforts are a joke
    - They want you to "improve" things, but don't give you time to do it. You have to take on extra tasks on top of your regular workload that is already overbooked
    - If your improvement ideas cost more than a nickle, they won't do them
    - If they do like your improvement idea, they tell you no then run with it as their own
    - Promotions are a joke. The most incompetent and unqualified people get promoted, some even after only a few months. Some get promoted just because they won't get a job anywhere else and have been there so long
    - No corrective actions are taken upon people who NEED it. They just talk bad about them behind their backs and continue to let them work there
    - Most of the systems are 20+ years old

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Actually listen to your employees
    - Take some initiative and do some work, get your hands dirty
    - Actually learn how to properly do Kaizen and Continuous Improvement instead of hiring some chump off the street
    - Again, listen to your employees
    - Get rid of your 30 year old systems
    - Get NEW systems and don't break them
    - Try some NEW things
    - Actually DO some improvement instead of just talking about it (and for the love of all that is holy, don't tack this on to somebody's already full work load, make this a full time JOB)
    - Again, listen to your employees

I worked at Thomas & Betts full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Stability. Most sales people either retire or move on by choice to a better gig. But then even the lazy idiots get to stick around.

    Cons

Bad training, micromanagement (even from peers down to what to type in an email), reviews are based as a whole territory and not on individual merit, shady sales reps, many tools to help with frequency of menial tasks but you are expected to do every little thing anyway, untruthful about overnight travel, 12 hour days and constant late dinners which are all UNNECESSARY!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop wasting time and money on bs things that don't bring you business and fire they lazy people

I worked at Thomas & Betts full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I can not think of many Pros. The insurance is ok. The products are well known in the market place.

    Cons

This company doesn't know what direction it's going in. They were recently purchased by ABB so maybe their is hope for T&B. Extremely high pressure job. Never had enough employees in our department to cover the work load. No help or direction from management. Some of the managers have nothing to do so they will watch the people that are actually doing the work and try to nit pick and tattle to there managers if they take to long at lunch or on a break. The managers need to pitch in and help with the work loads. And stop staring out the window to see what others are doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn from your mistakes. Listen to your customers they are usually correct and can tell you where you need improvement within the organization.

I have been working at Thomas & Betts full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Not many other than it's a job to get experience for your next job.

    Cons

Make you set goals, but even if you reach them, they only provide raises between 2-3.5%. Managers are not very proactive. They never offer any support during the year, but at review time, they let you know everything you did wrong to give you the lowest raise. They beat you down so much, you lose your incentive to go that extra mile.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Waste of breath to give them advise.
