I worked at Thomas & Betts full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for training and learning experience, some hard working people, some good leaders/mentors, opportunities for those that want to work hard and are self motivated. Great place to start a career and build experience. Much like the saying, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", you will either sink or swim at T&B.

    Cons

In the years leading up to the sell off to ABB, decisions were often penny wise and dollar foolish . There was a lack of long term vision and long term investments to do what was right for the business. Some of us were work horses who pulled the wagon, while others were show horses who asked why the wagon wasn't being pulled faster. Sadly those who were show horses were not dealt with, and brought down others who pulled the wagon relentlessly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The book "Good to Great" should be given to all upper management, as T&B is at best a "Good" company. Management should follow the steps in the book, the first of which is to get the wrong people off the bus, and get the right people on the bus. The work/life balance could use some improvement, which is linked directly to the people(management) who need to be taken off the bus. If the problems in management could be addressed, the company could have potential.

I have been working at Thomas & Betts

    Pros

benefits are better then most jobs, the work is full time, and people are mostly respected there. they will keep their current labor there unless the said employee is causing major problems.

    Cons

They don't consider any ideas unless they are cost free, they have no consideration for the personal needs of their employees unless it also benefits the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If someone comes up with an idea, instead of saying its yours, let them get the credit. Give people positive affirmation when they do something well. Actually consider what people have to say instead of dismissing it.
