ProsHighly structured environment with a solid roadmap to the future. Plenty of personal and professional growth opportunity in the form of additional training through seminars and on-site education. Very good compensation package if you are part of the management incentive program. Solid benefits including both a 401(k) and a retirement plan. Tremendous product knowledge at the operating facilities.

ConsSome ivory tower syndrome, i.e., "everybody at the corporate headquarters is more competent then employees in field locations". Few promotional opportunities in the field, must move to Memphis to move up. In some divisions senior management has little or no operational experience.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstitute a supervisor rating program.

ProsOne can have enough freedom. the culture is good. the work load is not too heavy. One can definitely-easily manage. Five-day week with mandatory 40hrs per week.

ConsYou don't get paid too heavy as in software companies. Its only a decent pay( not very bad).

Review of Thomas & Betts Corporation - Electrical Division

ProsThe company offers a generous and competitive compensation package. Middle management and sales staff are generally excellent. R&D for product development is outstanding, and the company has maintained a strong reputation for the quality of the products it manufacturers, particularly in comparison to competitors' products.

ConsThere is a strong sense within the company that upper management is not concerned with the welfare of employees --- that their primary concern is stock value.

Also, in the last three years in particular, there has been a lack of direction and communication from upper management, and a general consensus that don't seem to have a concrete plan of action with respect to organization within the company and the marketing strategy. Instead, they seem to just try different things and hope something will work. They waste a lot of resources trying things that ultimately do not work, and this creates frustration within the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to management would be that they should spend more time focusing on your human resources, and what impact decisions have on employee loyalty, morale, and dedication. Otherwise, once the job market and economy improves, many employees are liable to leave. I would also advise management to direct more attention to training and development of employees. "T&B University" used to be a wonderful resource for training and development, but it is hardly used anymore.
