Former Employee – worked at Thomson
Pros – The finance industry has always been an area in need for a design revolution, Thomson provided me the vast green field to perform as thinker.
Cons – The retention of good designers was a challenge, as the industry is defficient of experienced talents. Also the lack of internal training contributed to it.
Advice to Senior Management – To invest on each designer, with certifications about the industry, career plan, a creative environment where the group has th bandwidth to innovate.

Pros – Team work and friendliness. There are challenges and opportunities. Interesting work on leading edge technologies. Multinational company. Mobility and travel opportunities.
Cons – Salaries are below average. There are no compensation packages. Difficult to promote. The company has gone through a deep finantial crisis.
Advice to Senior Management – Increase compensation (salary, bonuses, stocks, etc.) and opportunities to promote. Titles and career ladder should be more clear.

Current Employee – been working at Thomson
Pros – Princeton is a nice location to live. The house is more affordable than other cities with more similar jobs. The school districts in neighboring townships, including Plainsboro, South Brunswick, West Windsor and Montgomery are all high ranked. With NYC just one hour away, one can enjoy the city life without the hassle of living in a big city. Beaches are also just one hour away and are excellent for summer weekends.
As a part of an international company, it has connection with other sites in China, France and other European countries. Employees have chances to get to know the working styles of other countries.
Cons – The company has not been successful in branding itself in the United States. When introducing the company to others, they may think about Thomson Financial, Thompson Real Estate, Thomson xxx, etc. Before RCA was sold, one good way was to indicate that RCA was owned by Thomson. Now I have to try Grass Valley, Technicolor, PRN, one by one to see if any of these brands sounds familiar.
There are many products available from Thomson, but very few are leading products in their fields. Also with so many directions, it is hard to tell where the company is heading to.
Advice to Senior Management – Every time a site was opened and then closed, it came at a cost of losing employees who weren't willing to relocate. It also sent the signals to other employees that the decisions, even from very high management level, might be not serious at all.

Former Employee – worked at Thomson
Pros – Flexible working environment, with non-beuraucratic environment - good to be part of a global leading company who demonstrate continued growth in an ever challenging market climate
Cons – Headed from the US, localisation of some products and service are necessary for alignment with UK market segments
Advice to Senior Management – Management were good at maintaining a flat non-hierarchical environment - which worked well in creating a fluid structure of reporting and escalation
