    Pros

The department that I work in is understanding of family first. This is very important for someone such as myself that has young, school aged children.

    Cons

Management, management and management. Upper management needs to understand the effects of technology on the business they manage. This is 2008 and we do not use pencil and paper anymore. They need to start respecting our jobs more.

    Advice to Management

Start respecting the people that keep the company running and keep up with new advances in technology in the field.

    Pros

Overall great training and great co-workers. Overall it was a great job and I was able to gain experience in many different facets of the industry. I feel the experience and knowledge gained outweighs the negatives.

    Cons

Long work hours. Little room for growth as the senior managers have been with the company forever and there are just not many senior positions. Monday evening meetings can last until well after 11pm AFTER working all day....complete waste of time and disregard for personal time. Project Managers WITH FAMILIES beware!! Be prepared to work long hours and many weekends at your families expense....no work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Get introduced to the 21st century. Old technology has been replaced many times and will drastically improve company efficiency and performance. WAY WAY too much paperwork needed. NO MORE MONDAY NIGHT MEETINGS!!!! COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!!!

    Pros

The company spends a lot on marketing which makes sales easier to manage. They also have a good CRM to follow up with potential buyers.

    Cons

They work their employees to the bone! Weekends are a must in sales and taking an occasional Saturday off is highly frowned upon.

    Advice to Management

Provide more sales incentives for sales staff & build morale.

    Pros

Good corporate training structure, if you are assigned to a good sales manager or two then you will be fine. Otherwise you will be given enough rope to hang yourself due to inexperience.

    Cons

Major downsizing due to real estate market, lack of long term opportunities. Construction is totally male-dominated and resistant to sales input and requests unless you have a buddy-buddy relationship with the PMs.

    Advice to Management

Foster a better relationship between sales and construction.

I enjoyed my time with Toll for 8 years. They did not hold me back from doing what I do best and be creative.

    Pros

When working with a Project Manager that was open to allowing you to be creative, supported your ideas it was a great placed to go to work. When I saw the potential for changes that I thought would sell, most Management remained open. I worked there when the lines went out the door and when you waited for the 3 might come in each week, so I experienced both sides of the track.

    Cons

The pay scale for Toll Brothers does not match that of the other Builders in the area.

    Advice to Management

When I was laid off, I received a letter in the mail. It would be considerably more compassionate and professional to have the respect to speak to them personally. Especially an employee who devoted so much time to the success of the Community they helped start and was there from the beginning.

    Pros

Comfortable work atmosphere, easy to use contracts, forms, letters, and company interface smooth and easy to use, coworkers were nice and interacted well between all levels of management and the building process.

    Cons

Too focused on cheesy selling techniques and homebuyer functions that only brought the same people every time, always about the bottom line but the economy was bad and people were taking longer, "go sell something"- really?, switched sales managers between locations too frequently.

    Advice to Management

You would tell us to sell but then get in the way of closing a deal or would give too much to the potential homebuyer that made us look desperate. As a sales associate I called potentials and kept homebuyers updated on building process, but when I took over contracts and you didn't give any of the commission to me I wondered why I was doing my work at all. You also moved sales managers around the community so frequently it was hard for me to ever learn their methods for sales and instead had to focus on the way they organized files, contracts, etc. It was very frustrating because I felt like the higher ups were never happy with our numbers no matter how well we did.

    Pros

Members of the club treat the staff very well. The tips help to make the pay more reasonable, and management is flexible with hours.

    Cons

The hourly rate is more than most servers make, but Toll Bros charges a service charge on all checks, which doesn't go to the servers. 12 hour shifts are the norm, and breaks are few and far between.

I worked at Toll Brothers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For the most part, the homeowners, office staff and construction staff are good to work with.

    Cons

Upper management doesn't have good people skills and can be much too demanding most of the time. * hours is not enough...10 hours is not enough...12 hours is not enough. Always want more than you can give. That's why many very good managers and other staff have left.

    Advice to Management

Be kinder and gentler to your quality staff members, regardless of which area they work in. Yes, you CAN always hire new people, but retaining your current staff who are good at what they do should be your priority, and when I worked for Toll, that was not an option. Now however, I understand all the nasty upper management have either left or were asked to leave. THAT is a good thing.....too bad I no longer live by Toll Brother communities or I would love to go back to work for them.

    Pros

Focus is on work produced, not time in office. Co-workers are friendly and co-operative. Opportunities to work w/ cutting edge technology.

    Cons

Poor physical work facilities. Little opportunity for upward mobility & job growth, largely based on time with company.

    Advice to Management

Improve work facilities. Provide opportunities for career growth.
