I worked at Toro Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The co-workers were the best part of the job. Lots of interesting people. The pay was good, in good times. The company had a decent work ethic.

    Cons

Some of the middle managers were incompetent in both their area of supposed expertise and managing skills.
HR was helpful and considerate when it came to benefits, etc. but worthless when it came to conflicts between management and employee. You knew you were screwed if the manager didn't like you. No objectivity at all on the part of HR in those issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the people you hire as direct reports aren't idiots. Negotiate and arbitrate disagreements between workers and supervisors objectively.

I worked at Toro Company as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Toro is unique because its a very old school atmosphere. It seems like everyone's been there for decades and its a very comfortable and nice atmosphere.

    Cons

The work environment can feel dangerously "Office Space" like with elevator music playing in the halls and a generally sterile vibe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take risks.

I have been working at Toro Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Willingness by company leadership to pursue transformational improvement. Focus on being a more nimble and agile company

    Cons

It's taken a long time to recognize what is required to be successful in the future and the second tier of leadership is worn down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More recognition on the effort and work being done today. More resources to balance our focus on short-term versus longer term objectives, i.e., fully support the transformation.
