I worked at Tory Burch part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great pay and discount, easy job tasks like working one-on-one with sales associate during shift/opening and unloading new merchandise, wardrobe provided including top, jeans, shoes and seasonal layer (sweater), organized shift times/breaks - always knew what you were going to be doing while you were there

    Cons

Minimal training, lack of communication between management and other staff, LONG seasonal shifts - working almost full time hours for a part time position, no opportunity for growth, unorganized product and back stock, uncomfortable wardrobe - the flats are adorable but not to work in for 5+ hour shifts

People are nice, but there is definitely a competitive, almost possesive drive in the air.

    Pros

There are personal growth and this is a growing company that continues to thrives.

    Cons

Since this is a growing company, there are going to be mishaps here and there. Keep an eye on that, because sometime your employer will look at you for solutions to many of their issues concerning a fast-growing company.

Great potential, as long as the company recognizes its shortcomings and learns from them

I have been working at Tory Burch full-time

    Pros

Great benefits and pay from a retail perspective.

Because of "values" and "culture" based hiring, MOST of the people who work there are truly great individuals.

Some of the highest caliber talent I have seen in the industry.

Low turn-over rates compared to other brands.

Working for a "hot brand" means we stay consistently busy and selling is not a challenge.

The company supports you making it right for the customer and doesn't push unnecessary policy or rules. It's about making it right, and it's liberating to have the tools to do that.

Overall brand vision is strong, and I think the company will succeed.

    Cons

Expect returns and irate customers due to low quality for the price of goods we're selling.
Luckily there is a liberal return policy with company support for repairs, discounts on new products, etc.

Some store managers are complete bull-shit artists and higher level regionals, corporate partners, executives, etc. fall too easily for it. "Assume positive intent" is too often thrown around.

There is also little you can do in terms of disciplining employees. The company is SO AFRAID of a lawsuit that there have been very questionable situations where we have been instructed to essentially sit idly by. "Assume positive intent."

There also is little promotion from within. The company loves to hire from the outside, and as we grow bigger and faster I have met several unqualified or out of touch employees. In a few years, I have seen MAYBE 2-3 promotions company wide.

While the brand vision IS strong (as noted in the Pros), they need to figure out means and ways to reward deserving employees and weed out those not performing.

The early success the company was met with, masked a lot of flaws and concealed underperforming individuals and antiquated procedures. I think you will see a lot of changes in the next coming years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Despite all the cons, I feel hopeful for change. I think SOME at the top are aware of the growing pains and trying to take measures to combat them.

Advice is to be MORE aware. There is incredible potential, but it requires developing talent and nurturing. I think the focus truly needs to be moved there and more on individual accountability.

Honor and appreciate "realness." Just being told "everything is wonderful and perfect and we work for the best brand in the world" will not help grow the brand and business. Illicit real feedback and respect (don't crucify) those with the courage to offer it.
