Average

Actuarial Analyst (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Towers Watson

ProsGood knowledge pool of people and pretty stable job. Lots of flexibility and average benefits package. One thing is for sure, you are not going to be bored here since there is always work.

ConsLack of profesional development for junior staff. This is a place to come with a FCAS and some experience under your belt.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be a good idea if management would really listen to employees. It seems that they are unwilling to accept mistakes and make changes. They are very short sighted in many decisions.

Good place to start for an actuary

Actuarial Associate (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at Towers Watson

ProsStrong presence in the industry; excellent training and exam support; supportive, collegial environment; flexible work schedule (varies by geographic location and management)

ConsLimited opportunities for advancement (possibly due to slowed hiring as a result of economic downturn); work is repetitive at lower levels - stretch opportunities are almost non-existent; expectations can be unclear at times

Advice to Senior ManagementI truly believe senior management is doing an excellent job. The Towers Perrin / Watson Wyatt merger is being executed very well, and I have been impressed with the execution of the company's growth strategy.

Towers Watson has not yet learned to cope with being a firm that's twice the size of the old firms.

Associate Consultant (Former Employee)
Boston, MA

I worked at Towers Watson

ProsGreat clients and some fantastic consultants. However, post-merger there seem to be fewer developmental and career growth opportunities.

ConsCan be a competitive environment because of the billable hour goals. And after the merger, cultures changed significantly, so it can be difficult to know what to expect in the future.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore open communication about the company's direction and decisions. And create more training opportunities for young consultants.

Great learning experience, and platform to grow in specialised domain

Actuarial Analyst (Former Employee)
Delhi (India)

I worked at Towers Watson full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThere is great support from the colleagues and management in terms of career growth and helping out with clearing actuarial papers.
Other pros are - intellectual peer group, professional development opportunities, recognised brand and the salary (if you're able to clear a lot of papers!)

ConsHighly niche, one should continue only if certain of pursuing the field, the papers and work can get a bit strenuous especially if you do not enjoy it.

Great Work, Terrible Pay

T&R Consultant (Former Employee)

I worked at Towers Watson full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat, challenging work, opportunity to learn a lot, smart coworkers, opportunity to be in a client-facing role at an early stage of your career

ConsNo work- life balance (office is under-staffed so you're always expected to be on call all the time including holidays/weekend), compensation is below average, direct supervisors are too busy to do career development meetings with you

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Employee Survey Analyst

Employee Survey Analyst (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at Towers Watson full-time for more than a year

ProsEarly exposure to clients including true client relationship management over the course of a project in person, via email and on the phone.

Some senior consultants are very collaborative and help analysts develop as better advisors to clients which includes involving analysts in survey design and results roll-out (including presentation to executive leadership).

ConsLong hours during the busier periods (usually July to December) which can be as long as 15 hours straight and weekend overtime. This is all unpaid.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter transparency.
