    Pros

    Benefits were generous and progressive; Smart, ambitious, hard working, friendly coworkers; collaborative environment;

    Cons

Very different environment post merger. Difficult to obtain billable hours goal, some favoritism at play with hours. Without meeting billable hours, impossible to get a good raise or promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Distribute the work down the chain more effectively; Go back to the LWW culture.

I have been working at Towers Watson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    -Work/Life balance is pretty good.
    -Occasional opportunity for overtime.
    -Pension and 401k
    -Benefits aren't terrible

    Cons

These are specific to Memphis as other offices are more diverse in how they function for the company...
-Very little room to advance unless you want to be an actuary
    -Pay is low
-Training is spotty and the first several months - year are very frustrating as a result
    -Constructive criticism is very rare

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management in Memphis would be to invest more time in training and fostering the development of employees. The management at this office genuinely has a lot client work in addition to management duties but they need to better delegate responsibilities so that new employees don't have to re-invent the wheel by themselves. I would also stress that management needs to work on providing feedback that is constructive. Often employees receive no feedback or lazy feedback that is easy to misinterpret and is often destructive.

I worked at Towers Watson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Diversified tasks, given a number of responsibilities, additional training provided, and a number of smart people working in the organization. Since day one I was given responsibilities for handling multiple projects, and when I had to learn a new programming language, the company paid for off-site training.

    Cons

Projects were repetitive, a lot of tasks seemed suited for an administrative type job, lack of mobility, not willing to listen to suggestions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Incorporate new ideas more, and provide a more challenging and rewarding atmosphere for employees.

Paternal Organization, Expect Hard Work, Average Pay, Good Starting Point but Not Long-Term Career

I worked at Towers Watson (more than 5 years)

    Pros

*Supportive environment for new hires, but you are expected to learn quickly and contribute ideas in a dynamic work enironment
    * Offices are usually in the heart of financial centers and nice environement
*Work on a variety of challenging projects and learn about multiple industries with smart and competent team members
*Great development opportunities, both project-related and internal training; I learned to be a strong consultant and project manager, but would not stay here for a long-term career.

    Cons

    * Progression can be very slow - unless there is a position that needs to be filled, promotions can be slow
*Constant feeling of putting out fires. Because you have to keep multiple projects moving, you're too busy to celebrate wins and successes. Hours are can be quite long, especially for the average pay
*Project opportunities can go to manager favorites
*Work can get monotonous; the organization says it wants to find creative and innovative solutions, but it's far too tangled in its corporate bureaucracy. Talents can be over-looked unless there is a billable reason to do anything else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more creative in finding ways to utilize the talents of your consultants. People have left in swarms because they are over-worked, disengaged and under-utilized.
