I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The work is fairly simple once you get the hang of it and if you know how to work a cash register and straighten shelves you've got a shoe in. The kids are also less of a problem than you'd think and the company puts great focus on making their experience a nice one.

    Cons

Unfortunately, any customer over the age of about 50 seems to come in looking for problems in my experience. And managers are perfectly fine letting said customers bully and berate you as long as it means getting a sale. For example, more than several times, I've had customers demanding a sale price or a discount on something just for the heck of it. So while the official company guide lines tell you to say no, your baby boomer customer will just whine and scream until a manager comes and bends to their will. I have never worked a day where something like this has no happened. The managers are never on your side and it's extremely embarrassing and hurtful to have customers who constantly do this without support. Basically, the customers are allowed to get away with anything as long as they don't run around giving the store "bad reviews".
The company itself if also obsessed with their "Toys R Us" credit cards. I've seriously been told by a supervisor to specifically target "old people" and "foreign people" because they're the most likely to apply for a card. As someone who comes to work on time, is willing to work extra hours, cover shifts, and do my very best, I hate being told that my worth is determined by how many credit cards I can get customers to sign up for.
I applied to this company hoping for a positive work environment and the ability to make children smile. But instead I'm stuck dealing with customers who have the attitude and maturity of a highschooler and a management team who's afraid of them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be afraid to put your foot down sometimes. Sure you're there to satisfy the customer, but believe it or not, not ALL customers are right ALL the time. Letting everyone get away with everything only encourages the wrong kind of customer to shop at your stores

    Pros

Team uniformity was a plus, the icebreaker/team-building exercises during the interview were actually beneficial.

    Cons

Pretty much everything else, upper management was atrocious, the hours were long and typically they cornered you into staying well into the morning shift. They lock the doors so you can't go on lunch or take smoke breaks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't promise full-time employment to your temps in the hope that they will work harder for a potential position in the company.

Overall, this would only be a good place to have as a second job.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Toys R Us offers schedules that are very flexible during non-peak season. If you want to change your availability, managment will work with you. The co-workers are wonderful people.

    Cons

Toys R Us does not pay enough money to support a hamster!!!!! The pay raises are never more than 15 cents. If you are a knowledgable employee, you become overworked and underpaid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managment needs to communicate with one another and employees. New employees need to have more thorough training during the holiday season in an effort to offer better customer service.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us

    Pros

    Exceptional people.
    Company is willing to adapt.

    Cons

    Poor Work-life balance.
Lack of appreciation from executive leadership.
Poor pay for Team Members and department supervisors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executive leadership needs to understand that quality work must be paid for. Team Members do not feel appreciated because they are not paid for how hard they work.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Flexible with schedule.
Pretty quick recovery after store closes unlike most retail stores.
    It's a pretty simple job.

    Cons

-They are heavy on this metrics thing they have (credit cards and warranty on toys)
if you dont get someone to sign up for their stupid credit cards or get warranties, you get written up as no contribution for that day u worked. This could effect your hours you get. They dont even give commission if u get someone to sign up for credit cards. They do it for "bragging rights," stupid as hell.
-Employee discount is honestly a joke (10%), In reality that does nothing but eliminate the tax on items. You can't use it on Apple products or Game systems.
-If it's not the holiday season, there are a lot of slow days and gets really tedious and boring.
    -The pay is horrible ($8.50)
-Times Square location, a lot of rude tourists that just come to take pictures and get on the Ferris Wheel.
-Interview process was a bit much.
-Unlike my other jobs that I've had, you cant view your schedule on a website. You have to wait until the floor managers post it on a wall or in your section's binder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're going to push so hard for your unnecessary credit card, at least give commission for your employees like Macy's, J.C. Penney, Best Buy, etc..
-the employee discount isnt really a discount, it's just barely enough to take away the tax. Should be at least 15%-20%.
-the pay should be at least a dollar more

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

flexible hours, time off and sometimes offer extra hours even paid earn time off pay is somewhat decent. and learn alot of things.

    Cons

when out of session not alot of hours are given too much management session can be hassle when they only schedule one person to do a million things at a time and expect you to get it all done in 15 mins.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

consider to move people up instead of hiring outside also learn how to mange back rooms / balancing hours also to treat there employees better and to also give the proper tools needed to do the job fully also to help out employees.

    Pros

Managers are nice so are co workers, chikdren make you smile easy training.

    Cons

Minimum pay, 10% Disscount, They over work you for what they pay you, Don't provide uniform, Lack of organization and being professional, They use you to do other peoples responsabilities, when still having your job to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more for your employees they are the reason you guys are still even here. Toys R Us is an old company and quite honestly target and disney stores sell more now a days. Over the past years statistics say TRU has been lucky to even be open up to today. If you dont want to end up like KMart or Circuit City appreciate your employees more.
