I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Helping to make kids and parents happy is rewarding. The job is fast paced so the hours go by quickly. Most employees are friendly and helpful.

    Cons

As a seasonal employee I only received three hours of training, which, in my opinion, was not adequate. Both managers and costumers have very high standards and it is hard to meet those when you do not receive a proper amount of training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training and patience with seasonal employees.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

You work from 10pm-6am 4 or 5 days a week with a 30 minute lunch break. Its pretty laid back setting because there is no time to play wit all the work goin on.

    Cons

The managers aren't really too helpful. It's no training, they pretty much just tell you what to do. There rules aren't to flexible, no matter the circumstance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be an upgrade in the training department and that will help with getting things done alot faster.mm

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement, team-oriented environment, beautiful campus.

    Cons

In the private brands area in particular, there is no such things as work/life balance. They pay lip service to it, but in the end, the pressure is so great, the timelines so tight and the amount of time spent in meetings throughout the day so intense that most people can't get to their actual work until 5:30--the alleged end of the day. 11-13 hour days are the norm. Way too much time spent in meetings and on hundreds of unnecessary emails every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing leadership. Figure out what works and stay with it. No more upheaval.

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Toys r us forces you to become a good multitasker. Coworkers are usually attractive coeds and potheads. The work is simple but repetitive and neverending. Work with scheduling and are reasonable about time off.

    Cons

You never know what you will be doing from day to day. May be working electronics, changing signs, working register, offloading a truck, resetting an aisle, or even just answering the phone. Metrics based evaluations for cashiers. You can never do enough work for the day, finishing anything just gets you a new task while lazier workers end up doing less work. Management is hit or miss, my store is solid but the district manager is a real curmudgeon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication is a train wreck, both between the physical workers and between the computers. Stop focusing so much on surveys. Theres only so much that can be done about metrics.
