I worked at Toys ''R'' Us

    Pros

Company values are really cool, obviously it's child oriented so it's a pretty fun setting.

    Cons

we were seriously pressured to get people to sign up for credit cards and rewards cards. Had to request time off 2 weeks prior, which was annoying cause there were times when I made last minute plans and couldn't switch shifts so I'd have to cancel plans.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

No matter what your doing, you get to work with all kinds of people. You will gain experience on how to handle different situations and problems that arise. The best thing about working here is that you get to work with a great team of employees. The atmosphere is a fun one, as it is a toy store, and you get the privilege to help people find that special toy to make someones day.

    Cons

One of the biggest draws to working here is the lack of opportunity. Even if you are a good worker in all areas of the store there is much opportunity to advance. It is also a top down management, as employees do not have much say in areas of the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better opportunities for advancement for good workers. Work with the team members and create some kind of management trainee program to groom the workers you have for future careers.

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us

    Pros

It was night shift, so the lack of customers was really nice. They were pretty lax on uniforms once the store closed.

    Cons

Stocking a toy store during the holidays is demanding, and with a ton of new hires, everyone is always tripping over everyone else. If you're just seasonal help, you'll feel kind of excluded by the regulars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would probably do some good to actually train employees instead of showing them a video and throwing them right into work.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us

    Pros

    Solid pay and reputation
Good at hiring for seasonal work

    Cons

Not much room to move up unless somebody is fired or retires
Not a good choice for long term employment at any level

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a lot of numbers driven decisions that are poorly considered. The regional GMs in Logistics are not very good managers and make business focus confusing. It is like distribution centers are constantly having to change the daily focus. All of the distribution centers are struggling with manager turn over.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You know it is an average retail job nothing to special just like Wallmart and Kmart and stuff. A pro is a huge balance of work and free time, part time is not much time you have to work so I have a ton of free time outside of work.

    Cons

Average Retail cons, customers can suck and really can be annoying especially when busy. Christmas time it is insanely busy! and the customers are just as rude. The largest con is honestly the pay does not feel worth it sometimes when you have an angry huge lady flipping out at you for something that is completely out of your control. Sales associates have no power over anything and people will flip out at you like everything in the store is completely your fault. No thanks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really wished we got paid more for being a retail worker. Retail to management is just awfull, for the employees and managers. It's just a drag.
