    Pros

Great and friendly environment to work in. Co-workers tend to be friendly since we deal with children's products all day. 10% employee discount. Health insurance for full-time employees.

    Cons

Lots of quotas to make, whether it be selling in-store credit cards, insurance plans for the products, batteries, rewards program sign-ups, etc. The amount you are able to sell will usually determine how long you will be able to stay with the company. Also business seemed kind of slow even during the peak Holiday season, so based on that it most likely does not get a lot of business during the rest of the year either.

    Advice to Management

I understand that up selling and quotas are important for the company, but the amount that TRU requires seems a bit excessive. It also makes ringing up a customer at the register an endless task since you have to ask the a billion questions and try to sell them a billion different things they do not necessarily want and/or need.

    Pros

at times square location: always busy so there's plenty of hours to go around. superviors are nice and understanding. seeing all the new toys is cool. at bronx terminal market location: there is an actual stock room unlike TS so any overstock doesn't have to be stuffed on the floor. a higher up actually visited us and that was cool. we were consistently given small tokens of appreciation during the longer and more stressful nights. overrall: compensation is a bit better than other retail jobs. get a nice workout.

    Cons

at times square location: aforementioned lack of an actual stock room. communication is awful. 2 associates from worst performing section, one of which was caught sleeping on the clock, were kept on as permanent employees after season ended. at bronx terminal market location: scheduling is awful. overhiring. overrall: doesn't do what they say they'll do in training. no real chance of advancement for actual hard working employees. small discount.

    Advice to Management

ACTUALLY hire from within like you claim you love to do. i worked my butt off in 2011 and despite applying every other month it took 3 years to get another look, and i'm sure despite all the praise i received this past season, i won't get another chance for a long while, if ever. what company WOULDN'T want to hire people who love their job over those who just do it for the check?!

    Pros

Awesome work environment, great leadership, incentives, everyone is so willing to help you with whatever you need help on, training is great and many opportunities to move up.

    Cons

Long hours, rude customers, complicated programs, the only thing I disliked was having to rearrange the items that were thrown everywhere after the shift, you had to stay until you fixed your section.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

    Pros

This company gave me many opportunities and experience. I've grown a lot and developed a wealth of experience over the last 19 years.

    Cons

Company not in growth mode. Hanging onto last shred of market share.

    Advice to Management

One size fits all approach does not work.

    Pros

It is a fun environment that will help you gain valuable management experience in a "big box" environment. There is advancement opportunity as long as you are patient and have the ability to relocate. Vacation time offered is good, but occasionally difficult to use before the end of the fiscal year (there is no rollover time pemitted for salaried managers anymore). Helth benefits are average and there is a 10% discount on most items for employees (a few times a year this is more and sometimes there are exclusive shop times for employees before the holidays).

    Cons

Work/life balance is a challenge as it is with most retail jobs. There is a blackout period between the week before Black Friday through the week of Christmas where no salaried store management can take any vacations and must work 6 days a week. Corporate offers an additional 4 free flex days to use between January and March to help make up for the extra time you work. Average work week in the off season is 45 to 50 hours. Salaries are decent, but, when broken down into an hourly rate based on the number of hours worked per year, are a bit low. No bonus available to anyone below the store manager level. Selling additional metrics can be rough and there is heavy pressure to exceed the set goals. Very difficult to stay on track sometimes due to the sheer number of things managers are required to focus on.

    Advice to Management

While this can be quite a stressful job during the holidays, the rest of the year can be quite fun. Corporate has been making some positive changes at the store level, but still needs to focus their efforts and not spread stores too thin.
