I worked at Travelers Companies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great PTO
    - Great training
    - If you belong to a certain demographic, tons of advancement

    Cons

    - Office politics
    - micro management
    - Mediocre senior leadership coupled with poor middle management
    - You have to be a certain color *wink*wink* to advance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Becoming a category of one doesn't mean you develop, promote, and mentor soley based off of racial stereotype; a great company is one that sees value in all and capitalizes on its diversity

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time

    Pros

Very conservative with staffing which creates more job security. Generally great people in management and regular staff.

    Cons

Errs on the side of understaffing, and has very high expectations. Very conservative with pay. Generally strives to get everyone at the midpoint of their job specific ratio and then keep them there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ultimately people work in insurance for the salary, not for their personal or spiritual fulfillment. They can feel used or taken advantage of if they are not paid in accordance with what they feel they are contributing.

    Pros

Wonderful people, respected company, stable financially, dedicated to charitable causes.

    Cons

Very stratified, tenure trumps skills, very heavy on red tape and Best Practices, most opportunities are in Hartford, CT.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management should be younger, more creative, and the focus should be on skills. Loosen up the red tape and home office focus.

Former Employee - Outside Claim Representative in Tampa, FL

I worked at Travelers Companies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Compensation was great for Florida. No nonsense environment that allows focusing on a great work product. Ability to see where you stack up against coworkers regularly.

    Cons

There are so many people from other companies that at times it feels as if everyone is attempting to recreate their former workplace. Training was non-existent however standards were extremely high. Micro management of positions that require a different approach. Work load was extreme even for claims.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a consistent message for employees and listen to their ideas.
