    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Some advancement opportunity in local offices, but more if you are willing to move to Connecticut.

    Cons

Probably no different than many other companies in some respects. Perception sometimes counts more than performance. Salary "mid-points" are really ceilings, and can be met before advancement opportunities open up.

I have been working at Travelers Companies

    Pros

I have worked for the company for over 10 years. Benefits are good and most of the people I work with are very helpful.

    Cons

Promotions are hard to come by unless you have a position which is "out there". Raises and Bonuses are rare no matter how hard you work.

    Advice to Management

There are too many levels of management. Bring the work back on shore. Some areas are busy and others don't have enough to do but we still have off shore staffs.

    Pros

Great benefits Excellent training program Ability to network

    Cons

Senior management not in tune with staff To much micro-management No autonomy to make decisions Lack on consistency in the information provided Staff is not appreciated Focused more on numbers and not the morale and well being of the employees No room for growth

    Advice to Management

Management needs to understand that an operation cannot be successful without its employees... Practice what you preach. Value the efforts of your staff and show them that they are secure, respected and cared for. Stop forcing all your best adjusters out the door.

    Pros

Ok pay for recent graduates. Large international and national company. Many different departments and market sectors. Knowledgeable employees with plenty of tenure. Somewhat flexible work life balance.

    Cons

High expectations for amount pay. Interviews can be misleading. Not competitive pay. Very limited room for growth. Poor middle management. Very restrictive growth potential.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like adults. Help and encourage employee development and growth. Implement better systems to retain top talent. Wait for changes to take place before scratching ideas.

    Pros

Financially strong, good reputation, good culture

    Cons

Pay and benefits are just average. Too structured in their advancement and development philosophy...... Regardless of your performance you have to follow the "Travelers" path. Experienced hires from the outside have higher salaries than long term employees with more experience. If you deserve a promotion it's easier to leave and come back.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the talent you have. Promote based on performance and skill set rather than a timetable. If you have to pay external candidates more than current employees to bring them on board wouldn't you re-evaluate the salary structure?
