Good people, bad systems. Lots of opportunity, but easier if you are related to someone high up.

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Large, financially sound, many offices, and opportunities.

    Cons

Compensation favors new employees and leaves existing employees behind.
    Relatives get ahead faster.
Puts office locations in the suburbs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should take a look at your current employees how are committed to the company (i.e. the millennials that didn't leave after 3-5 years) and make sure they are compensated commensurate with their peers. That's why we are leaving....

I worked at Travelers Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work environment with good hours, benefits, and no on-call, you can leave work at work. The pay is decent and you have some flexibility with hours. Dress is business casual.

    Cons

Sticklers for time management/billing. Much of the review process is opinion-based. An ordinary person has little room for advancement. Very little done for morale/team building.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A company should not promote those who didn't perform well. Difficult to take people seriously or respect their position of authority if you do not respect their work ethic as a colleague. Little things like casual Fridays does a lot to help morale.

    Pros

    Family friendly, industry competitive PTO,

    Cons

Can have its share of political by-plays

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Buyers have more options than TRV. Your shareholders obviously are concerned with a 4% drop in value in one day when you announced your new pricing strategy. (July, 2014)

I have been working at Travelers Companies

    Pros

Great environment, minimal egos in upper management. Good work life balance, and everyone is willing to help out a new hire.

    Cons

Besides financial incentives, no clear reason to stay long term with company. Takes many years to get any management role

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Minimal contact with management, but in general they seem very down to earth and helpful. Management made it a point to keep in contact with interns. Keep it up!

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Many people willing to help and guide early on.
    Many social activities after work.
Very nice area in St. Paul

    Cons

There is a lot of heads down work during the day where many people are plugged in not really working together so it depends on your work style if you like that independent work or not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Facilitate team oriented work
