I have been working at TriQuint

    Pros

I'm living in Florida is the Pro

    Cons

People here at Triquint have really bad attitudes. They only like you when your doing them a favor, after that they go back to their old self of either ignoring you or talking behind your back. I've work for 4 big corporations and have never experienced the amount of back stabbing as I have at this place. The old timers hate anyone that may have a good idea or suggest a change. Do not try to change the status quo.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get rid of the old timers, people that have never seen another company, they are holding this place back.

I have been working at TriQuint full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For the most part, there is a collegial attitude amongst employees. A lot of engineering companies in the area have a reputation for salary and promotion practices that encourage nasty competition amongst employess, and to its credit, TriQuint is not one of those companies.

    Cons

Being a small company with little turnover, opportunities for advancement or to change groups are almost non-existent. Upper management prefers external hires to internal hires for almost all management positions.

After being bought out by RFMD, the odds that the Hillsboro location will survive in tact are rather low. The consensus opinion is that RFMD is interested in the filter business coming out of the Florida and Texas facilities, and not Oregon's ailing GaAs fab and diminishing ability to get power amplifier design wins.

If you're already in the area, go ahead and take a job here. Relocating for this company seems like a big gamble at this point.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to promoting internal talent.

    Cons

Top people are high C or low B at best. No options to grow career.

I worked at TriQuint full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits included Sabbatical Leave for older employees. Communication with engineering support staff was normally pretty good.

    Cons

IT department didn't necessarily communicate that well about upgrades or modifications of local business unit's MAN. IT would change procedures (ref: repairs) and not communicate that either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Texas business unit probably could have benefitted from getting one or two Technical Writers onboard to help Test Engineering Department keep up with Shop Process changes.

    Pros

Good pay, great Benefits, wanted to retire here

    Cons

Cannot believe how I was treated just because of one person in Management! In 6 years 6 Perfect reviews, 5 nice raises(1 year none but still received stock options), Company turns a Blind Eye to its own "Code of Ethics" allowing managers to be in direct supervision over family members!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow your own guidelines because one day you will have to answer to a higher authority.

I worked at TriQuint full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Reward longevity...3 week sabbatical for 5 years service. Enough time for self-improvement. Great place to kick back, get experience, make contacts and then move on. You'll meet life-long talented friends for life here. Very informal atmosphere.

    Cons

Once a supervisor gets a position, it's for life. Encouraging participation in CPI out loud but actually when someone demonstrates better ways of doing something they get shut down HARD! Efficiency and high standards are preached but not practiced. Big time "don't rock the boat mentality" from day one. The contributor level employees are still not involved in the goal setting process (but the VP says they are trying to change that). At least two software packages they use in production haven't been supported in decades. Cliques just like high school. Unorofessional

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your Quality manager has a hard time keeping his department at full staff. Weed out the old timers in the design department who are anchoring your business in the 90's. Don't just talk about cross department co-operation, reward it. Also reward managers for changes and encourage standards.

Former Employee - Process Engineer in Apopka, FL

I worked at TriQuint full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Design Engineers are friendly. The guys in the trenches- Operators & Techs are best I have worked with. Company has hired very capable Process Engineers in FL from Agere Systems/ Lucent Technologies/ Bell Labs/ AT&T. CEO calls to greet you on your Birthday.

    Cons

Commodity business. The 3 levers are cost, quality, and service. The company is trying to improve the quality through initiatives like Zero Defects to lower cost.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to employees below middle management directly, this way you correctly reward your top 20% and bottom 10%. Consider moving the SAW process to 6".Thanks for the ride, it was a blast!

    Pros

Good employees, benefits are great and lower level management fun to work with.

    Cons

Management is not real honest with lower level employees, they tell you what they think will make employees happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

when you know employees are unhappy, don't tell them something to make them feel better, or make them think you are going to help them.
