I have been working at Tribal Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Highly diverse range of activities day-to-day.
Forward looking company for sales and markets.
    Great people to work with.
A great place to learn new skills so long as you put in the effort yourself.

    Cons

Too many activities without adequate management.
No project management for concurrent tasks.
Line managers do not have enough time to actively manage their teams.
Too many different requests with conflicting priorities makes the day-to-day job occasionally stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a PMO and get all the projects resourced and tracked correctly.
Allow managers to manage rather than seconding them to high profile tasks and leaving their teams bereft of strategic direction.

I have been working at Tribal Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity to travel.. Can be left to own devices for the most the time. Due to the lack of management at the office - can pretty much get away with murder.

    Cons

No management. No training. Terrible team communication. Lots of office politics to contend with... Will happily expect staff to work until the late hours because of staffing issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Employ actual managers.

I have been working at Tribal Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good Salary, Free Tea & Coffee, flexible working hours.

    Cons

Management highly inexperienced! Really glitchy products! They tend to simply "add a new bit on" which should hopefully mask the broken parts, I think there software has more versions than I do hot dinners!!

Developers living in the stone age! QA is almost none existent!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to staff more! Seek advice when needed and start looking further afield when developing software, all of it needs a fresh approach! Excellent development teams scattered around Tribal but terrible managers who don't utilize them to the full extent!

I have been working at Tribal Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Helpful and friendly people (mostly anyway)
    Global contracts with high potential
    Flexible working hours
    Attempting some agile methods
    Office newly refurbed
    Free tea and coffee

    Cons

    Software is dated
Although there are a few good developers, innovation is stifled by those in charge.
Very much a software hacking company with few industry standard patterns or methods used. It's all about bolting on some new half baked features and shoving it out the door.
Lip service is as much attention as testing is given.
Senior devs fear change due to their lack of knowledge and experience outside of tribal.
They need to drag themselves into this decade and put more focus around quality.
Management are very inexperienced and run around like headless chickens (literally)
Much more agile methods are needed around the software development if they are to sell themselves as "agile", it's more than just two week iterations and a daily stand up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage new ideas, there are developers with good experience on the floor.
Learn more about the software development cycle.
Place more emphasis on quality and a little less on new half cooked features.

I have been working at Tribal Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Management are excellent, they trust employees and give a lot of support when needed.
    - Colleagues are also very nice, a good and postive atmosphere overall
    - Flexitime
    - Can work from home
    - Overtime available if wanted
    - Agile implemented properly (mostly)
    - 9/12 on the Joel test

    Cons

    - Some very mediocre employees
    - Code base isn't as nice as it should be
    - Unit tests exist, but writing them is always harder than it should be
    - A little bit too much bureaucracy for an agile company
    - Stories aren't always as well defined as one would like
    - A promise of lots of on the job training has not been fulfilled

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the quality of the developers, either through more training or better hiring practices.

I have been working at Tribal Group

    Pros

There are opportunities to learn from seniors. Company is growing fast in the current climate which is a positive. However recently there have been more uncertainities.

    Cons

Recruitment has been frozen recently. Not much benefits are available. There is lack of transperancy in the way projects are allocated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manageent should strive to help the new comers specially when they do not have experience of working in this sector.
