I have been working at Troon Golf full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

When it is all said and done this company knows how to manage golf clubs both public and private.

    Cons

Happen to work with one of the worst GM's in the company so it does bring down scores a bit...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate training is too vague. Need to be more property specific. Too many places doing things way too different and best practices not shared or taught.

I have been working at Troon Golf full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great place to work if you are in it for the golf. Casual atmosphere, friendly associates. Extremely flexible with scheduling and vacation time.

    Cons

No raises for mid-level employees... Bonuses that were owed paid months after earning. Unappreciative of many loyal associates. Vertically organized, Micromanaged

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the facility is successful, compensate associates accordingly. Schedule meetings and truly listen to employee feedback.

Great company with integrity, but provides little stability and no advancement opportunities

I have been working at Troon Golf

    Pros

    Troon Golf provides the following:

    --Leaders with great integrity
--Freedom for employees to do their jobs
    --No micro-managing
--Good benefits (except a low match within 401K)
    --Average compensation
--Great corporate resources for every area of club operations
    --No cookie cutter approach
    --Very positive work environment

    Cons

Company is great, but management contract basis itself is prone to high turn-over and employees are very vulnerable to the whims of property ownership.

--Troon supports education, but rarely does property ownership agree to funding appropriately.

--Corporate does not spend enough time maintaining relationships with course owners, so it places too much pressure upon its GMs to continually sell the value of the company.

--They provide little to no opportunity for internal advancement. To often Troon GMs find out about new contracts after a GM has already been placed in the position. This is very discouraging to loyal GMs.

-- Know of numerous managers that were left on the street when contracts were not renewed for no fault of their own (change in ownership, developer/builder declares bankruptcy, etc...). Troon does not support managers post contract and does nothing to help with securing temporary positions internally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

--Communicate potential new contracts early on in the process. GMs might have contacts within the prospective property that could help secure contract.

--Do not knuckle under when owners seek to lower quality of operations in order to lower short term costs. Too often contracts turn bad due to lack of backbone by Corporate Executives.

--Business Development staff should directly engage General Managers in soliciting other local clubs for contracts. By doing this GM are given opportunity for multi-course management and due diligence process now involves individual with local operating expertise.

    Pros

Great Benefits related to the golf industry. Fun and mostly relaxed environment. Promoted teamwork and was commended for hard work

    Cons

Low level job and was treated very poorly by some of my superior staff members. Not an ideal place to work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would help to be more aware of your employees actions and it would be a major improvement if the management got to know the employees a little better
