Great product, good for a first job

    Cons

Company is going through some big changes. It's not the company that it use to be.

Disconnect between upper management and middle management.

    Pros

You get to work with many ex-Deloitte employees who are smart and talented, provide you with sufficient resources to help you complete your job, and they offer a solid 401K plan and health benefits.

    Cons

Culture is not fully embraced by the whole company. Middle management from prior to buyout still run the company as it was before and not adapting to culture changes. Not all departments are treated equally, if there is a half-day or culture event, don't expect the accounting or finance team to join. There seems to be an obsession with working long hours and not embracing a work-life balance with this company; leaving at 5PM is often seen as being lazy and looked down upon.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with middle management to buy in on the culture C-level executives are promoting. Talk to your accounting and finance staff to see what they need to succeed or what can be done to make them feel respected.

I worked at True Religion Apparel part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Discount Sales associates and some managers are very friendly and helpful Not a very competitive atmosphere, which is nice..I worked in all of the stores in NYC and the atmosphere is very negotiable, sales associates are respectful.

    Cons

Most the store Managers are horribly disorganized and are a walking train wreck. They are mean, take their anger out on sales associates and honestly seem very bitter. The store is always understaffed, yet anyone barely gets any hours. most of the time they are in need of managers, yet hire a bunch of part time employees instead and give each over laughable hours .. Like 13 hours a week. the theft in the store is insane, the regional and store managers act as if we should rip the clothing out of the customers hands.. WHICH IS DANGEROUS! Always try to go by the handbook while addressing theft, the customers can be shady at these stores.

    Advice to Management

If you hate retail and are bitter about being 40 and not moving up in the company, go somewhere else.. You are ruining the environment for the staff. Also stop being cheap with promoting people to full time or key holder positions, you are letting great people go elsewhere for jobs,,and it's taking a toll.

  6. A company that doesn't really honor its employees

I have been working at True Religion Apparel part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Quality products, and the hours are maleable towards schedules. Overall, a friendly environment with a healthy and positive selling competition between he sales associates.

    Cons

Upper management is estranged and uninvolved. Management does not follow through with training/development. The company does not offer time and half on holidays, and makes you work all holidays. The company does not offer any form of sick time/vacation to any part time employees, whether sales or management. The pay can be much more for the amount of work that is asked of associates/management.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your sales staffs are properly being developed in the store level, as many of the management teams honestly do not care or work with them.

  7. Good for 8-10 months max-unless you wish to pursue retail further

    Pros

    great discount (70% off product)

    Cons

if you're looking for seasonal work, this is not the company for you. minimum wage and the hours are competitively based-more sales, more hours, less sales means crap hours. Not a good job for somebody who needs to pay bills.

    Advice to Management

With the management title comes a lot of responsibility. Be careful of the power you have. do your job correctly and properly, you'll be rewarded as such. be able to run the store while holding your sales goal at the same time. It's tougher than you think.

    Pros

Discount percentage off is very good, but there is a spending limit every month. Offer medical, dental, and vision benefits and a 401k with 4% matching for full time employees only.

    Cons

Was bought out by private investors after the board voted the owner out and decided to sell the company. There's very little opportunity for growth, unless you are in the DM's inner circle of people. They also like to bring in new people from the outside to fill in any management position instead of promoting from within to those who deserve and have earned it. The pay/salary they offer now is a joke. They are running in a very tight payroll where it's only 2/2 coverage for the whole day. So they expect you to use minimal coverage for floor set, selling, etc... They are always taking feed back for product, but at the end of the day they still do what they want. The replenishment system is a joke., I've never worked for a company that requires you to create a product request list on merchandise that have sold in the store to send to corporate. This takes a lot of time away from sales floor, when the company should have a faster replenishing system to replenish their stores. You also get made empty promises by the upper management, and I've seen it in dozens of occasion, and have been in it myself. The registers are extremely slow, it's embarrassing when your ringing up customers. Customers do get frustrated when they should be having a fast closing the sale experience. If you are considering this company, I really suggest you think twice about it. There are more cons that I have not written here. Just for the record I am part of a management team not a sales associate and I know of how many others who want to leave this company.

    Advice to Management

Value your teams, and store management teams. Really promote from within.. Brake up those inner circles of favoritism., blinds you from seeing the people who are truly working hard to advance. Really listen to feed backs...

    Pros

Very structured in retail stores. Great for development in manager roles, but you end up working harder than your pay is worth.

    Cons

No room for advancement. Prefer to hire from outside, and not internally. Very difficult to move up within company, and receive raises in pay. Does not have an identity with their brand. Trying to steer brand in another direction with hard transitions. Currently is hourly plus commission for all retail stores, however, the company is switching to strictly hourly in May 2014. Very political company.

    Advice to Management

Believe in your people more, and be on THEIR team. Remember- if you invest in your employees, they will invest in you!

    Pros

Weekly paychecks if you're an hourly employee, healthcare and dental benefits.

    Cons

illogical structure, which causes more issues than necessary and causes the workflow to be highly inefficient. poor management. difficult to move up or even learn new skills.

    Advice to Management

communicate with employees, keep them in the loop so everyone is on the same page and has the same expectations/goals. work like a team and less of a competition.

    Pros

Nice laid back environment, used to be the best place in LA to work!

    Cons

a revolving door! very political and clicky! Terrible management! Let go of so many hardworking people. and replaced them all with new directors! there are more managers than workers! The way of thinking is to put more pressure on the remaining half of the team and get double the work out of them! it does not work! people are quitting left and right! and the ones that have not quit are looking!

    Advice to Management

I really used to believe in this company when I first started working here! I was so excited about it all and then the sale and restructuring happened! New CEO has good intentions but is weak and misguided. The senior management are dreamers and out of touch with the reality of what their teams can actually accomplish with the given manpower. all brand history is lost through the "strategic" lay offs! good move guys! stop squeezing the life out of the remaining workers because you have spent all your money hiring directors and assistants for each of them. If you don't take the pressure off your workers and adjust the workload, promote from within, and change the moral pretty soon everyone else will quit too. A little appreciation goes a long way and I don't mean wax museum parties!
