    Pros

The best reason would be that the time you get off of work depends on what you do.

    Cons

A con would be that you have to work at a certain speed. You will get fired if your production rate is not where it needs to be.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to give the employers a bit of slack because the inventory that we had to carry was heavy. For you to expect someone to lift those heavy boxes and move fast it is impposinke if you're a woman.

I worked at True Value full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A great place to work that teaches you a number of good qualities including good customer skills, inventory and shipping experience, and operation of certain tools and machines that most employers would rather you have had experience with.

    Cons

At the location that I had worked at, there were no cons. It was an exceptionally great place to work just starting out in life.

    Pros

This job has allowed me to expand my connections in the blue collar work world. There is always something to learn about construction, plumbing, electrical, painting, key smith and lock repairs. Many of our customers are owners of private business such as handyman services, gardening, etc. and have great knowledge to share with myself and fellow employees. Thanks to this job, I can handle any customer (we get some really mean ones) and I can probably build a whole house from the foundation, up.

    Cons

Sometimes customers can get angry when they do not find answers to their household problems. They expect our store to have a professional plumber or electrician on standby 24/7 to answer to their every need. Aside from these rough men, it's not so bad.

    Advice to Management

Managers have a good sense of training every worker to do every job around the store, so everyone has the ability to do just about anything.

Small room for growth. Even though you make a good living, you eeventually hit the wall of growth.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up

    Pros

The company is great always allowing you to interact with other stores and members. Really great learning opportunities and working on making it easier for the members to learn. Really trying to modernize and grow the company. And always able to give you answers.

    Cons

Sometimes their product decisions for sales not always the best need to get more creative but also keep it simple such as Black Friday ads.

    Advice to Management

Create opportunities for retailers the ability to grow into corporate and or ownerships so that the young people can create careers.

    Pros

With John Hartmann at the helm and huge investments in growing the business announced in Q4 of 2014 it's a great time to join True Value. Having spent much of my career recruiting for technology professionals I'm excited to join the company just in time to see heavy investment in some really interesting IT projects. Not to mention all the other new roles that are being introduced in 2015.

    Cons

True Value has traditionally not been know as a great place to work if you're an IT professional looking to build on the latest technology infrastructure. It will be interesting to see how that presentation changes as the company invests heavily in upgrades and new initiates.

    Pros

While working there I felt like the people that I worked with became like a family to me. I looked forward to going to work every single day. The managers were always more than helpful to teach you everything they know, they were really good about taking my under their wings. They also taught me the real-life side of business, nothing was fabricated to make it seem better than it was. They are extraordinarily knowledgeable and experienced.

    Cons

The only con for me really was progressing upwards. The pay did increase slightly year by year but as far as obtaining new responsibilities I did find that I eventually hit a wall.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. I learned so much about sales, hardware, and customer service.
