I worked at Tucows part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This company is client/employee focused, you could work from home and still make decent salary.

    Cons

It is completely commission based, if you strive hard to develop a disciplined approach to sales you will make it, entry level sales agent will find it difficult to breakeven without much experience in this job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

management should consider paying some form of salary/commission and invest in more training for the entry level recruits

I worked at Tucows full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people are amazing. The work culture is Google-based - shoes off, patio BBQ, foosball, social teams, and TONS of snacks. Very relaxed attitude to creativity and personality. Quick to promote and recognize talent, open communication between management and staff. Good at targeting weaknesses and actually helping the employee to improve.

Flexibility to choose your hours and to work from home. Excellent work-life balance for those who maintain several extracurriculars.

Again, can't say enough good things about coworkers. Friendships are maintained outside of office hours, and I've even seen a few relationships bloom!

    Cons

This is a small company that is rapidly expanding and doesn't quite know how to. It's trying to keep small-business practices but needs to change its management operating systems to account for fast growth and change. Great for the company, less so for the management, even less for the employees who catch the brunt of the management's stress.

The growth that the company is experiencing is leading to a few communication errors between upper and middle management, and the employees get the short end of that stick. There's a lot of stress as the number of customers grows and the number of employees stays the same.

Training is an area that can definitely be improved upon. Not a lot of the training was actually applicable to the job, and the training was done by an outside hire who had zero experience in the actual job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a trainer that knows the business; that's more important than any training credentials. Consider hiring an outside firm to consult on how to grow with control.

    Pros

Flexibility and ownership to pursue job tasks. Good support by managers who are encouraging and always on the lookout for me to develop in various ways.

    Cons

Nothing much to say about cons really, its really about who you get to work with and how they support you along the way.
