I have been working at Turner Construction full-time

    Pros

    I can't think of any

    Cons

If you're not someone's pet, forget about promotions. Most of their policies are based on whatever has worked in the past. They don't keep up with the present at all. Two week's vacation is ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop living in the past and look at the world around you. You talk about people staying for their whole careers but you don't do anything to make them want to. Base promotions on quality of work not on who likes you or how long you've been there.

I have been working at Turner Construction full-time

    Pros

Great corporate culture. Real 9-5 job.

    Cons

Lacking leadership. Not many risk takers within the company. Employees too afraid to speak their mind. Too many outsiders brought in whose philosophy's conflicts with the true values that Turner has built and represents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees. Provide better career guidance. Cutting jobs across the board will not improve bottom line numbers. Business needs to focus on innovation.

I worked at Turner Construction full-time

    Pros

Turner is a huge company nation and worldwide. They pay well, good benefits, and fun group of younger people.

    Cons

They tend to have favorites and not good at working together as a family team environment. You don't really have a say in this company unless you've been around for 10 plus years. For example, you might be on a different project without a choice the next week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I recommend listening to the newer employees and building a better work environment for everyone. Plus, training needs to be done the same way every time. Everyone has their own way of doing things, which can make it difficult to work with.

    Pros

Decent compensation. Some really bright people.

    Cons

"Drink the kool-aid". If you were not raised through the Turner system, you are really never accepted. There are clearly two sets of rules. The ones for the Turner Boys and the rules for the rest of everyone else. They rule by being Big Bullies...... They're style gets real old real quick.
Woman, are merely tokens and quotas. Usually promoted to meet metrics. It is an exhausting place to be......

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Replace yourself.

I have been working at Turner Construction

    Pros

Turner offers a great benefits package and above average salary. The people in administrative positions in the Cincinnati office are very personable and helpful. Stress work/life balance but expect you to be available on vacations/time off.

    Cons

For a company this size I'm amazed there is no central marketing or communications group. As a result there is no cohesive look/feel to any of the marketing materials. As a marketing group member you are expected to also be a graphic designer. Performing basic graphics I can understand but they expect you to do rebranding and high level design. In additional most business units only have one marketing professional. Which means it's all you all the time. I work for a subsidiary and it's clear the lack of marketing structure has been around for awhile. I would recommend Turner as a place to get 2 or 3 years experience but I do not recommend for someone with experience as a marketing professional. You will get frustrated very quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue about what marketing professionals can do for you. Understand there are many types of professionals that make up a marketing team.

I have been working at Turner Construction

    Pros

They have some great projects, big name clients and architects. They also have some very different projects, in size and use.

    Cons

It is a large company where it is easy to become a number and not a person. They promote based on tenure, not performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek out those in the company who are dedicated and reward them for their extra effort to retain them, rather than lose them to competition.
