I have been working at U-Haul full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    You got a pay check.

    Cons

A lot of hassles from management and customers. A lot of unfulfilled promises to customers as far as availability of trucks and equipment, cost add ons and poorly maintained trucks. The customers become agitated and take it out on you while the management push the blame off or just ignore the customers concerns. They look at it as they need the equipment and its too late for them to do any thing about it the day of the move. Also the management would overcharge according to the amount quoted over the phone. They expected the employees to do an unreasonable amount of side work while doing customer rentals and if not completed they had you complete it off the clock. Little or no opportunities to move up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have reasonable expectations of the employee work load, also give the equipment and prices you promise the customers.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Job is not hard. Get to travel.

    Cons

Company will not alow employess to go over 25 hours a week but you wont even come close to it. You'll come in for 45mintues one day 1.5 hours the next maby 4hours another. They wont even call you the to let you know your not needed for that day untill you show up in the morning. They have plenty of work, but have way to many employees for the position. Employees dont care because of the low pay and low hours. Turn over is very high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay a better wage and keep the hours at 25 -30 for part time and you"ll to keep good loyal employees.

    I worked at U-Haul part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Being able to work from home

    Cons

    -Never got a raise
-No support from management when needed
-The really good employees are treated the same as the terrible ones
-Summer time was the only time you get enough hours to make a decent paycheck. Every other time of year you were limited to about 15 hours per week and even then often times you would get "sent home" early due to "low call volume." This is not a once in a while thing but typically to be expected during every shift
-Since no part timers qualify for ANY sick time or vacation time then we were never allowed to even take unpaid time off. I was there for over three years and NEVER was approved for even just one week of UNPAID time off. They refuse to give you a few days off but then you show up for your shifts during that same time frame that you had asked for off and you would get sent home early due to "low call volume."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-No advice given to management would ever make a difference. Everything there was based on profit even at the expense of treating employees poorly. In an environment like that nothing will ever change unless the very higher ups at the executive level decide that ALL employees matter not just the management AND that squeezing employees in any way possible for their bottom line in profits is greed of the worst kind. It was one thing not to offer part time workers a few hours of paid time off each year, it is something else entirely to never allow a part time employee any unpaid time off and if he does take time off then that is counted against his schedule compliance. Working there was not a pleasant experience.

    Pros

Did gain some experience as a manager.

    Cons

Very long hours, low pay. I was a manager and the pay left a lot to be desired. Worked 6 days a week at salary position. Equated to about 60 hours a week. Place is a joke. High turnover, people just burn out, and mang knows we are replaceable.

I have been working at U-Haul full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Above average salary for accounting jobs in Phoenix. Cafe in one of the towers that has affordable, delicious food.

    Cons

Parking is several blocks away. It takes 3-5 years to get in the garage which HR doesn't tell you when you interview. The department I am in is full of negative, back biting people who openly talk about each other. The workload is heavy, lots of emergencies and angry people calling. I've worked every weekend since I started and since I'm salaried don't get anything extra. Co-workers use the F word like it is a regular word to use at work. Also the buildings are really old so no sinks in the breakrooms and the bathrooms are old and smell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the dead weight. A lot of the people who have been with the company 15 years or more wouldn't last at any other company.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The only things that I can say are good about working for U-Haul are the fact that I am able to work from home and the benefits offered to part time employees are pretty decent.

    Cons

Management is horrible. We are supposed to provide excellent customer service, however, that is very difficult to do when we are constantly told that we really cannot do anything to help the customer with issues that they may be having. Most of the time when I ask a supervisor/manager for assistance, I am told sorry, we can't do that for the customer. Also, the wait time is horribly long when instant messaging for assistance to a question. I have also emailed my manager numerous times over the course of a year asking for assistance or direction when I have a question and most of those emails go unanswered. What's the point of having a manager if they never respond to your questions? I see why it's a revolving door at this company. Also a warning, if you do sign up as a work from home agent, beware that whatever schedule you say that you are available for, you will NEVER be able to change it even though they tell you that after 90 days you can request a new schedule. I have attempted to get approval for a new schedule for over a year now and it's always been denied!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Answer emails when they are sent to you, don't ignore them. Also, instant messaging should be responded to much quicker than it usually is. It's embarrassing having a customer on the phone and having them wait so long just to answer a question they may have or to help them with an issue. That's not considered good customer service in my book!
