I have been working at U-Haul full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Above average salary for accounting jobs in Phoenix. Cafe in one of the towers that has affordable, delicious food.

    Cons

Parking is several blocks away. It takes 3-5 years to get in the garage which HR doesn't tell you when you interview. The department I am in is full of negative, back biting people who openly talk about each other. The workload is heavy, lots of emergencies and angry people calling. I've worked every weekend since I started and since I'm salaried don't get anything extra. Co-workers use the F word like it is a regular word to use at work. Also the buildings are really old so no sinks in the breakrooms and the bathrooms are old and smell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the dead weight. A lot of the people who have been with the company 15 years or more wouldn't last at any other company.

    Cons

Management has no clue what there doing. We work way harder than we are paid for. the company is not customer orientated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to hire from within the company...not someone fresh off the street with no idea what they are doing

I have been working at U-Haul part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only things that I can say are good about working for U-Haul are the fact that I am able to work from home and the benefits offered to part time employees are pretty decent.

    Cons

Management is horrible. We are supposed to provide excellent customer service, however, that is very difficult to do when we are constantly told that we really cannot do anything to help the customer with issues that they may be having. Most of the time when I ask a supervisor/manager for assistance, I am told sorry, we can't do that for the customer. Also, the wait time is horribly long when instant messaging for assistance to a question. I have also emailed my manager numerous times over the course of a year asking for assistance or direction when I have a question and most of those emails go unanswered. What's the point of having a manager if they never respond to your questions? I see why it's a revolving door at this company. Also a warning, if you do sign up as a work from home agent, beware that whatever schedule you say that you are available for, you will NEVER be able to change it even though they tell you that after 90 days you can request a new schedule. I have attempted to get approval for a new schedule for over a year now and it's always been denied!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Answer emails when they are sent to you, don't ignore them. Also, instant messaging should be responded to much quicker than it usually is. It's embarrassing having a customer on the phone and having them wait so long just to answer a question they may have or to help them with an issue. That's not considered good customer service in my book!

I worked at U-Haul full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Well some of the other employees can be good to know but that's about it.

    Cons

Besides the constant customer complaints, horrible upper management, constant threats of being fired, revolving door of upper management, being a glorified customer service rep when your title is manager, lack of payroll to safely run a store/assist to customers, seeing good people terminated for no reason, and on and on and on, the worst con was the time of my life wasted working for this company. Once you start to make too much money (which they give you in raises) you are pretty much on the chopping block. Your termination reason will vary but it will never be true and you will win in your unemployment trial because they have no facts or proof of your reason of termination. Its been over a year since my employment and I still talk to some people that work there (the ones that are left) and it hasn't changed. I was in management and had four different bosses during my 5-7 years of employment. I will not put my exact time as I know how they can be. Read up on the Shoen family and see if that's what you want on your resume.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no advice for management as they don't listen. They have no other concern than profits, period. My only advice is for job seekers, look elsewhere. Unless its just temporary. But good luck trying to find another job while you are employed, you will be worked to the bone, 65 to 80 hours a week and salary. Also I feel as if my resume has been tainted with this companies name on it. I have a excellent work history and finding a new job was extremely difficult after U-Haul. Never was in the past, if I wanted a job then I got it. STAY AWAY!

I worked at U-Haul part-time for less than a year

    Pros

My fellow customer service representatives were nice.

    Cons

You do not receive any breaks, even the ones that are required by law. There is no loyalty to hard workers. If you put in a notice of resigning you WILL be fired before finishing out your two week notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't take it personal when people need to move on to a new opportunity. That is clearly a problem here since it happened four separate times at one location.

I have been working at U-Haul full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will get a pay check / they will higher anyone

    Cons

They will higher any one and you will get unqualified, unmotivated and under payed co-workers who will quit as fast as they were hired. You are treated like you are expendable and the abuse required to stay their creates a bitterness that any body who stays and is reflected by worker to customers as well as fellow workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people like you want to be treated not like your superiors treat you and you will get better quality workers eventually.

I worked at U-Haul part-time for more than a year

    Pros

You keep busy here cleaning trucks.....

    Cons

no respect, recognition, hours for part-timers. only mgmt is the ppl there that are full-time and get 40 hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

start a recognition plan for your part-timers. Offer more hours to part-timers not just certain stores because the store manager there is family of an mcp. Need to do MORE audits of the storage units to reduce loss revenue b/c store managers storing their belongings in a unit.

I have been working at U-Haul as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Paid on time; Aside from that, I really do not know what else to put.

    Cons

Poor training; Some rude and condescending employees; Some people in management are sarcastic; They try to get by with customers with the least amount of assistance they can provide, if any; People at the lower end of the Totem pole are basically put in a bind and burdened with unrealistic expectations; Outdated software that cannot accommodate bandwidth workload

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to retrain the management staff and employees that you have at the locations. Inconsistence with information is bad enough. But being sarcastic, rude and condescending towards other employees or subordinates is just asinine and unethical. Making a change brings results. Simply saying that "We are the best" and such are just rubbish propaganda. Customers call Customer Service "not to compliment", but because they need assistance. Telling a customer that your said employee(s) is an excellent or reliable employee is not in any way or form the kind of assistance that a client going through a move is in dire need of.

I worked at U-Haul full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Made a lot of good friends there, hot women to date; I worked in Corporate headquarters as a professional

    Cons

Extremely low pay, I was there 11 years and had topped out the pay scale. The new company I went to doubled my salary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep the equipment maintained; their were a lot of customers that got killed while I was there, raise wages, quit cheating - they did the same thing as Enron
