I have been working at U-Haul part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Customers are often times nice to talk to. Quite a few discounts on phone bills, Apple Products, and new GMC and Ford vehicles. Flexible schedule. Decent starting pay for a entry level job.

    Cons

Can be stressful at times if not enough people are working. Some programs are pretty unorganized.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Personally, I love waking up on a work day to start my shift. Sometimes its hard to leave at the end of the day. Its a fun job that I find very interesting. There are always new things to learn. Managers at my location are very nice and helpful for the most part. It is a very relaxed work environment as long as you get your work done. I enjoy interacting with centers, dealers, and customers. Great company.

    Cons

They pay isn't great and most employees are only offered part time which makes it difficult to rely on the job to pay bills.

I worked at U-Haul full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I learned a lot about customer service and how to work with others in a sometimes stressful atmosphere. Around 90% of the time customers were happy and patient. Corporate was usually easy to get ahold of and tended to be resourceful and knowledgeable. The job sometimes was fast paced and made the day go by quickly. The equipment (trucks/trailers) were easy to work with and do simple maintenance on.

    Cons

Every once in awhile there would be a day with nothing but stress and headaches. The 10% of customer that were not friendly or willing to work with me, or be patient really got on my nerves. If corporate screwed up the dealer on the other end would have to deal with these crabby customers. The biggest problem I had with equipment was the trailers. About half the time tail lights didn't work! Also the Area Field Managers were almost impossible too get ahold of when you needed them because they were so busy all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Area Field Managers are WAY over loaded with work. I honestly felt kinda bad for what they had to go through for an OK pay check. My advise would be to have two Field Managers for the regions they cover that really need it.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The training is set up to make sure you have a thorough understanding of the job. My boss is an excellent leader and is not at all afraid to get her hands dirty. Customers are generally in good spirits, and the office work is not too terribly demanding.

    Cons

It is a very physical job a lot of the time, you clean the trucks and trailers inside and out. Often times you are giving customers a tour of the property in extreme heat (as my location is in Florida). As a moonlighter, you are unable to get more than 25 hours per week, which is great if you are in school or have a second job, but not so much so if it is your primary source of income.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work. My boss is fantastic and always willing to work with me in whatever way she is able.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

UHaul has one of the best training programs around, they stay update on what each employee needs as far as training programs almost on a daily basis so no one falls behind. They offer a good benefits package to full time employees medical, dental and 401k.

    Cons

Some of the work can be very physical, cleaning storage units and moving trucks and when its 100 degrees outside it proves to be very challenging. But if you have another employee helping you it makes the work go alot faster.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I feel there always needs to be two employees working if the location is open for when it gets busy and for security reasons. There is plenty of work to keep two people busy all the time.

I worked at U-Haul part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Turkey for thanksgiving, flexible with scheduling, casual work environment, variety of work, friendly manager. Seems like there is room for growth.

    Cons

Not the most thrilling job or work environment, little training but that could have been because I was only a temporary employee. There was not much room for creativity.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Educational. Fun if you like working with your hands. Oppertunities for discounted equipment. I received free installations as a form of training.

    Cons

Mostly outside work. Very dirty. Sr Management doesn't understand the work we do and sets unattainable goals for store managers. Customers are always upset, then again who is excited to be moving??

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come work in the yard for a week with the underlings and see if you could keep up with high standards you require.
