ProsVery nice working atmosphere with very friendly employees and supervisors. Everyone is very understanding and are very helpful. The software projects are not too difficult but can give a challenge to unfamiliar programmers. There are also other projects that involves non-programming skills.

ConsYou will need to be motivated in order to put out good work. You will need to be assertive to get new tasks and new projects to work on.

Advice to Senior ManagementDepending on the student, it would be very good to have small projects from time to time to assess the skill level of the student worker.

ProsGreat ability to work on a lot of different types of projects. Job growth available in all areas. Management really listens to input from all levels of employees.

ConsParking is always an issue but space is limited so it is understandable.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep listening to all levels of employees for input. Get out on the units and departments and interact with all staff.

ProsThere's lots of career development, very nurturing and supportive senior leaders, great benefits, flex-time, great co-workers & working environment, and plenty of fun and challenging projects. Most of the senior leaders are very open to new ideas and value the input of young professionals, which makes you feel like your opinions matter. Others may have different opinions and views, but I guess it just depends on the department/unit one works in. As a young professional, I'd definitely say that it's a great place for other young professionals to consider when looking for jobs.

ConsParking at the University in general is expensive and extremely limited and the facilities aren't all "super cool," but it's not bad.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the time to recruit and train more young professionals - it would help market UCSD Health Sciences as a more appealing place to work, especially for recent graduates looking for job opportunities.
