Great place for those odd ones 35 and older

    Analyst (Former Employee) Goleta, CA

ProsBenefits, and a really pretty campus.

ConsThey make you pay for parking, and the culture just isn't there. It depends where you are in your departments but for the most part everyone is on the older side and is incredibly out of touch with the real world...think unmarried "cat ladies". You are INCREDIBLY UNDERPAID and have little to no movement for growth. It's a government job where pretty much nothing will get done when you ask someone else to do it. The people are nice but really weird, and you won't be going out to grab a beer with them after work, or want acknowledging their existence out of the workplace. It's okay if you need something to do and don't care about making money, but without a second income life can be pretty tough. The staff is roughly 95% women and the men are only in the technical positions. No real applicable experience which is sad.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's a poor government job with limited funding, there's nothing really to say.

    UCSB

    Food Service Staff (Former Employee)

ProsFun people, and it was a good experience over to work for the UCSB dining commons, but I don't miss it.

ConsLong hours, sometimes the day just seems to never end and while the management was good, sometimes they could be a bit headstrong.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the pay cuts, save the UC system, don't let it die give workers better compensation and take care of everyone!

If you're looking for a reliable job and want benefits it's the place for you.

CNT III (Current Employee) Santa Barbara, CA

ProsDepends ( I can only speak for IT Staff, academic positions are another area I cannot address).

If you're looking for a reliable job and want benefits it's the place for you. Merit is not really rewarded because virtually everyone gets the same increase regardless of performance. The exceptional are ignored (not to say I was exceptional but I saw some who were). Only the really really terrible are ever disciplined/fired.

ConsIt's Political!!! The Professors run the campus (as they should) and look out for their salaries and increases before anyone else. Increase in pay typically requires accepting a job at a different department. Be prepared for very very little growth in a job unless you are re-hired in another department.

Advice to Senior ManagementFrom what I've seen the Chief Information Officer at UCSB has done very very little. It's really very simple, the management of Information Systems is not an academic discussion. Why are there server rooms in every large building on campus???? Why are there separate email servers for most departments????

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
