    Pros

There is a variety of Health Insurance Plans to choose from, both HMO and PPO options. Once you select your plan, you get to choose you doctor from with in that network. The Vision plan is accepted almost everywhere as well as the Dental.

    Cons

The co-pays and amount deducted from your check seem to go up every 2-3 years.

    Pros

-Awesome climate, seriously west-LA is the best
    -great collaborative environment!
-Academia allows for a high volume of hard work and a great outlet for motivation and drive - but at the same time lets you keep a good work-life balance!
    -Surrounded by world-class co-workers!
    -Beautiful campus

    Cons

    -terrible traffic!
-students. Ok I know its a university, but sometimes the kids can be annoying
-some faculty are entitled and treat non-tenured staff and faculty with disdain.
-racial bias - maybe its all academic environments, but I think that needs to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-spend more money on the lower ranks.
-create programs to teach racial integration
-remove tenure and force professors to continue working for their worth

    Current Employee - Assistant Professor
    Current Employee - Assistant Professor

    Pros

Excellent environment, open collaboration policy across campus. For assistant professor in particular lots of encouragement, support, and, above all great transparency in the advancement and tenure hurdle. Overall just great.

    Cons

Perhaps some bureaucracy could be reduced, but it doesn't weigh to much on one's schedule. The teaching load is slightly higher than other comparable research institutions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The teaching load and balance between amount of students and professors in a department should be given more attention.

You're not in it for the money (clearly)...

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Working with academics, working for a cause, great and friendly coworkers

    Cons

Horrible upper management (ie. Project Directors), same pay year after year with little-to-no raise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push up your sleeves and get in the trenches when the underlings need your help, so they're not pushing 11-hour days and weekends trying to meet deadlines, while you're micromanaging

  11.

Serious budgetary constraints from the overall system.

Current Employee - Graduate Student Researcher in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

Great system, world renowned. The research being done here is phenomenal and you get to participate in it with a very friendly faculty.

    Cons

There is a serious inability to get money from the central UC system down into the individual departments, especially if they are small. The bureaucracy here is worse than other major school systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I know you can't do much, but really fight for that money. Get California to give the schools more funding.
