I was a TA, and it was super fun

    I worked at UMBC part-time

    Pros

UMBC is an amazing university with amazing values that treats students well.
As a TA, I had a ton of help being the best I could, and growing and learning. If I ever decide to teach full-time, it would be at UMBC!

    Cons

Some of the fellow TAs could use some help in recognizing appropriate boundaries. I was impressed with how well authority figures managed it, though.

I worked at UMBC part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Even though the job itself wasn't that interesting (calling alumni to ask for donations) the people I worked with and the boss really made the time fun. The boss really put together a team of people who worked together well, and went to many lengths to help those struggling succeed. It seems most of the jobs on campus understand needed to do less hours around finals time as well.

    Cons

I really have a difficult time coming up with cons. It wasn't the most interesting job in the world, but I worked with people I liked, got to work on homework when people weren't picking up the phone, and got paid a lot. Maybe the ability to work more than 9 hours a week would be nice, but as a part time job I don't think it was necessary.

    Pros

You will wear many hats due to the nature of the non-profit businesses.

    Cons

Need to be motivated and have strong leadership skills and communication skills. You will also need to find a work-life balance as soon as possible, as this is a salaried job and some aspects of the job require travel and weekend or evening work.

I have been working at UMBC as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Really good opportunities is research for students. Professors find ways to get students involved in research and encourage it.

    Cons

Sometimes the payroll can get messed up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The school has been number one up and coming for a number of years now because they push their students really hard. One thing would be to ease up on the students' curriculum by not making the classes quite as rigorous.
