I have been working at UMass Memorial Medical Center (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benifits, insurance is cost affective, 401 k. They have a decent pension plan as well. Sick Benifits are also good with good vacation time

    Cons

Lousy management. Seems that there are more in leadership rolls, and much less in staff. Need of more nurses and techs. Need more respect!

    Advice to Management

Have respect for all. Don't treat grown adults as children. Listen to concerns without a response of That's how it is now.

I worked at UMass Memorial Medical Center as an intern

    Pros

Very nice people all around. They help you out with whatever you need help with. Everyone is always discussing their needs and are open to any questions.

    Cons

Was a lot like busy work. Mostly filing in excel worksheets with data and then creating graphs. Did not learn a lot of software.

    Advice to Management

Management should have the interns trained to know more of the exact work that the employees do and the software they use.

I worked at UMass Memorial Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

High pay scale, Union job, good health benefits package, liberal time off policy, are just some of the pros of working at UMassMemorial.

    Cons

Disagreements between co-workers are not solved. No good problem resolution system in place to resolve problems between co-workers.The only system in place is for disputes between workers and management, union is not set up for,and can't effectively resolve, disputes between union co-workers. This problem needs to be addressed.

    Advice to Management

I would advise UMassMemorial to look at improving their problem resolution systems and make them more effective.

  6. The benefits are good, but the work schedule makes it tough to have a life.

    Pros

The benefits are good, especially the accrued time off policy. It really allows you flexibility with time off for vacations, sickness, etc.

    Cons

Having to work every third weekend makes it tough to have a life. It's tough raising a family when you have to constantly switch days off with other employees.

    Pros

Major growth phase, easy to rise if you are capable, good work life balance

    Cons

Growing pains. EMR still being implemented, needs better coordination with community practices.

    Advice to Management

Maintain core mission (hint: primary care)

    Pros

The Kitchen has a ton of awesome employees. the pay is quite substantial, and holiday, weekend, and evening differentials allow for a huge pay boost. no drug screening for all you potheads out there (hell yea!!!) Weekends are really easy since there is a small amount of staff/patients. PLENTY of breaks, with the flow of work going from large amounts to nothing at all for even hours at times.

    Cons

poor management. poor maintenance, they seem to JUST keep things running around here. dish machine breaks often and garbage disposals always fail. we just work around it. management sometimes chooses to ignore problems more often than fix them. even if it means we could get shut down. example: the dish machine for 2 months was running at 60 degrees for its final rinse(instead of the industry standard of 180!). the supervisors would lie on the temp charts while we waited for parts. this is highly illegal.

    Advice to Management

actually spend some time in the kitchen.

HealthAlliance is a great place to work, but make sure you understand what your role and expectations are.

    Pros

Salaries are competitive with many of the hospitals in the area. The people are great to work with, and are quite friendly. It's a family environment. The benefits package is great. There is a lot of vacation/sick time, two types of health/dental plans, flexible spending account, and a 403b plan. It's a good place to work if you like to be involved in many different aspects of health care technology. If you aren't a clinical person, that knowledge will surely increase as a result of being employed. The software vendors do on-site training, and are generally easy to work with.

    Cons

There isn't much room for advancement as groups are small, and there aren't many levels of management. Management, at times is blind to what it takes to complete various tasks which can cause some frustrations. 24/7 support is necessary, and can cut into a personal life when being called during off-hours. There is a lot of juggling which must be done, and a person must be very good at task management and prioritizing because tasks will get buried quickly, so organization is a must. This can get frustrating because many tasks don't get finished and get left behind. You must be a self-learner because the amount of useful training which is received is minimal.

    Advice to Management

Review the amount of man hours necessary to complete the large efforts being pursued by the organization.

    Interesting challenges, good life-job balance

    Cons

Financial instability, lack of good infrastructure, huge problems wilth information systems, lack of real communication from leadership, indundated with wasteful communications from leadership, too much "senior leadership", inefficient organizational structure at the top

Communication within the hospital needs work

    Advice to Management

Worry more about lower level issues than the high up stuff
