    I drive the browntruck

Full Time Package Car Driver (Current Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsThe pay and benefits are great when you eventually can get a full-time position. If you enjoy working on your own and can handle pressure, this is a plus. I enjoy meeting the people I deliver to also. I have heard a lot of co-workers who came out of the military compare UPS to that type of a career. It is possible to get an easier job by driving tractors or going into management later on. We get a lot of vacations, over-time, have a pension plan, 401K, company stock discounts, and we get corporate discounts from other companies.

ConsDriving a package car, which is company lingo for the brown delivery truck, is a very physical job that is tough on your body. So you need to be in good shape from a health stand point. The hours are long too, if you have small children you will miss all their activities Monday-Friday. I have an 8:50AM Start Time, I typically clock out at 7:30PM. I live 27 miles away from my work location, this means I leave my driveway about 7:30 in the morning and I get home after 8PM on an average day. The company constantly comes up with new technology to try to increase the amount of work we do, they also know through GPS and other technology what we do all day.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company needs to hire more employees and decrease the workload a little bit. They also need to improve servicing our customers better.

UPS Is good for the money!

    Unloader (Current Employee)

ProsIf you are into politics, you will go far; Drivers can make upwards of 90k a year after three years; Full time supervisors and managers (above supervisors) make about 75k-150+k, respectively.

ConsNo upward progression if you don't play the game of politics; most management will not help you advance; the bottom line is the only thing that matters; most supervisor's have absolutely no leadership ability.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt must be working, the stock is up and no one is going hungry but the part timers...and they are a dime a dozen so...I guess if it aint broke, don't fix it!

    Corporate Office

Corporate Office Supervisor (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsGood benefits; they have a tuition reimbursement plan to help pay for your education; they have a management incentive plan where you get awarded shares of stock each year as a bonus

ConsNot flexible in schedule; work/life balance was non-existent; were only willing to entertain part-time management hours in corporate office for a maximum of one year (at time of employment. May have changed but not sure).

Great Job, if you have no outside life.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCompany has an awesome brand name. Good benefits and nice base salary. Awesome experiences with working with many different people and loved being in the field.

ConsWork load is not realistic, behind on the times with technology. To many folks not focused on customer satisfaction, but more on what is in it for them.

Good pay, phenomenal benefits, challenging work but not rocket-science.

Accounting Specialist (Former Employee) Coppell, TX

ProsGreat opportunities for over-time pay. There is a consolidation push into the Coppell office for accounting positions resulting in a lot of work. I enjoyed cleaning accounts up after they were insourced. There is a real camaraderie feel and team work is a norm. I've never seen a company provide better benefits, I was practically paying nothing for a family of three. There are also a lot of advancement opportunities so if you learn quickly and apply yourself, you can climb the ladder fairly quickly.

ConsBeing that a lot of the work is being insourced, some of the accounts are messy and require to be combed with a fine-tuned comb. There aren't a lot of opportunities for training but I saw a push to change that. A lot of the people you work with are younger people (fresh out of college) so there could be an arrogance in the air and a lot of inexperience. There is also a high turnover in this office.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement has pushed for work-life balance which was a great incentive. My advice is to pay attention to those individuals that are making the accounts better and teach them leadership skills. There are some workers who are being promoted to supervisor levels that have no business being there other than the knowledge they have acquired from working there for over a year. Supervising not only requires knowledge of the work but also people-managing skills (which a lot of the Latin America sups do not have).

    Stressful, but worth it.

UPS Package Handler (Former Employee) Louisville, KY

ProsVery good benefits. Pay starts out low but gets higher with experience. The training helps with safety and learning what to do in your area.

ConsHOT the warehouses are hot. The sups can be very pushy at times also. And you work holidays too

UPS has demonstrated great value and vision towards the future.

Part Time Operations Supervisor (Current Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsEach day is challenging and different. I actually look forward to coming to work and happily arrive early or stay late. Management above me gives me goals to meet that are attainable and rewarding. This company looks to promote from within and rarely hires outside. There is huge room for growth in this company and in coming years there will be a lot, I mean A LOT of positions opening up in upper management.

ConsIf you are looking for a job that gives you the same task without variables everyday this isn't for you. Also, though there are different shifts to work throughout the day, some people burnout on the nights as supervisors because they cannot cope with the scheduling.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider working closer with middle and even lower management to learn about short comings of the company, or ideas for boosting achievement.
