I worked at URS Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

A paycheck. Personal Autonomy. Some good people across the company struggling to align vision and execution. Average benefits.

    Cons

No cultural identity. Fragmented execution, no cooperation across acquired businesses. Historically, no IT vision or rationalization of acquired IT portfolios resulting in extreme duplication and operational cost structure 4x too high. No leadership or budget for IT innovation.

AECOM high-level acquistion communications were on target. Interactions at Director level and below were few and far between with no effort to build relationships. Lots of infighting at Director level for ownership of prized programs and resources, with very little communication to team members. Resulted in lack of detailed vision, no goals, no relationship building or team cohesion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

AECOM has a lot of work ahead running their playbook to fix this mess.

AECOM Executive IT Management has a repeatable playbook for integrating acquired companies. URS is their largest acquisition by a factor of at least 10. They will be challenged to rationalize the IT portfolio and realize targeted cost reductions.

Maybe in 5 years you'll be in a position to do some interesting IT projects. Enjoy the death march.

I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

NONE. Despite good pay and benefits, it's not worth it. After 35+ years in the workforce, most incompetent place I've ever seen.

    Cons

HR & Payroll Staff can't properly transfer files.
Refusal to promptly pay Federal Court Ordered garnishments in timely manner (2 months behind since the merger).
Arrogant attitude from incompetent corporate management & does not hold corporate staff accountable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Worst career move ever. Get your heads out of dark places & see what is "really going on!". AECOM...back out now if you can.

Current Employee - CDL Crude Hauler in San Angelo, TX
Current Employee - CDL Crude Hauler in San Angelo, TX

I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The Crude drivers are great to work with. Great training even though only 2 had a years experience.

    Cons

Spent 3 weeks in a motel at a remote location, mismanaged & lack of work. Paid $700 for the 3 weeks. After returning they changed perdiem mileage etc and discovered the $700 was my entire income for almost a month. They hire saying they pay holiday pay. Later you discover the holiday pay is after 1 year. So working those holidays pays just like a regular work day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They preach do the right thing. After the fact, I find out I drove 1400 mi, shuffled the other employees in my personal vehicle to and from work twice a day. Stayed in a hotel away from home for weeks, missed being home for 2 holidays for approx $200 week.

    I worked at URS Corporation

    Pros

Big company. Some stability. Some online training stuff for project management. Not a functional multi disciplined engineering unit where I was located.

    Cons

To much overhead. To many forms. To much process. Bottom of the barrel firm for semi functional engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Read some books or something.

I worked in Downtown Anchorage and walked to work.

    Cons

In-experienced Project Management. Scheduled Project deliverables on an unrealistic time basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get better people in your Management Structure. Your PM's don't have Design experience and should not be calling the design decisions.
