    Pros

URS Federal Services Division was a great place to work. Very talented and competent professionals who worked collaboratively on many projects in support of DOD Tasks.

    Cons

AECOM bought URS in late 2014. The culture has changed and the employees are no longer valued as they were when at URS. The bottom line and the board room is having too much say now.

    Advice to Management

Treat your former URS Federal Services and Defense Industry Employees better or you soon will lose much more than just a group of very talented and competent professionals.

URS acquired the company for which I was working. Sad day.

    Pros

If you're desperate, and URS makes an offer, take it and feel free to continue searching. They would do the same to you. It's a very large company, though, so if you want to build a bridge or an office complex, you can definitely drop your expectations and look for those lines of work.

    Cons

No loyalty to employees; they don't know what to do with IT professionals, since they're really a large-project construction firm.

    Advice to Management

Set up a separate business unit to handle IT contracts, and listen to the qualified IT managers who work there. Avoid losing these personnel; they're very valuable even if for no other purpose than qualifying for other IT contracts.

I have been working at URS Corporation

    Pros

Organized, professional environment. Shiny office with gorgeous views. Lots of nice people from other departments. Great stepping stone to add to your resume. Great experience to add to your career.

    Cons

Accounting department is very political. Lack of diversity - management is almost all Chinese, and statistically there seems to be a tendency towards Chinese hires and promotions. Strong expectation for long hours. Cannot work from home at all. Compensation is very weird - you are salaried, but your pay gets cut if you work less than 40 hours. 401k is extremely skimpy, and employee stock purchase plan is a joke that only works on people who don't understand it.

    Advice to Management

You guys grew too big. Welcome to AECOM!

    Pros

A relative amount of freedom and work/life balance. Good people working in staff positions. Some interesting projects occur from time to time.

    Cons

Rampant favoritism and a complete unwillingness to support staff through equipment and other purchases. If your computer or the network doesn't work, that merely means the client will pay more. Management is completely out of touch and if you don't mind stepping on other people, you will advance.

    Advice to Management

Reward staff for their contributions. Focus less on delegation and management and reward those that actually do the work. I saw this repeatedly. Those that managed work-load and others got promoted. While those lower level employees doing 90% of the work got paltry raises. For the record, I was not one of these lower level people with no advancement potential.

    Pros

Working for URS is was more like trying to survive on your own without any support. no room for advancing in the company. and you only got regconition only if you made the managers look good. and out of five years i only got one raise.

    Cons

at URS we had to pay out of pocket for benefits towards the end, and you got no pat on the back when needed.

    Advice to Management

my advice to the company would be to have them hear what the employees have to say and have better management skills. and to give others a chance to advance with in the company.

    Pros

    - Fat, greasy free food (if that's your thing).
    - Co-workers spend a lot time together at the shooting range over the weekends (if that's your thing).
    - Strong good old boys mentality (if that's.., well, I think you get it).

    Cons

    - IT department resembles company structure (compartmentalized and segmented).
    - There is a deeply rooted history of outright resentment between groups, making the working environment unbearably toxic.
    - Management tolerates unprofessional behavior.
    - Welcome to the minors!

    Advice to Management

We know it's all a big joke, but at least pretend you care.

    Pros

Worldwide resources and opportunities, potentially. Significant projects. Excellent people to work with, dedicated and talented.

    Cons

Merger into AECOM not well planned, at least not well communicated. Lots of talk about valuing people, but not backed up by action.

    Advice to Management

    Communicate substance, not fluff.

    Pros

Pay is decent and get to experience different facets of Civil Engineering.

    Cons

    - Humiliated by senior managers (I was treated better by fast food managers before college)
    - Not much work and you wonder every day if you'll have a job at the end of the day
    - Top heavy management
    - Management is very unorganized
    - Engineers are expected to just focus on design and management won't even share budget or timelines with
      the engineer designing the project.
    - Not willing to spend the time to train new hires (it's sink or swim)

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to the "worker bee" employees on suggestions, train better, and don't let your ego or arrogance get in the way to manage employees in a proactive way.

    Pros

Acquisition of AECOM will help sift through the non-performers.

    Cons

Too many non-performers in the organization, which is acceptable as part of the culture. The culture is one of inner circles. If you are in one, you are good regardless of your performance level.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the high impact players in the org and involve them as part of the leadership team.
Focus on those that can successfully help the company grow the business.

    Pros

Plenty of good people to work with

    Cons

Large bureaucratic organization, slow to move and change. All URS corporate leadership positions were eliminated in the acquisition, so unsure of the new corporate culture. Change in culture could lead to excessive turnover and loss of good people.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication, focusing on the truth and honest intentions instead of repeating the same corporate message meant to fit all about how the acquisition is a growth opportunity.
