    Pros

    Office was close to home.

    Cons

    Direction was abysmal. Worked as a contractor and received next to no communication from supervisor. Way too corporate and conservative for the average high functioning employee, imo. They expect your commitment but offer nothing in return. There was a significant lack of authenticity as well. Nothing worse than working for a company you don't trust or believe in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Consider management training or perhaps hiring people into management positions that recognize how critical their role is in shaping future leadership. The managers I encountered were not leaders but promoted into positions of leadership - Big difference. The arrogance was offensive and embarrassing.

    Flexible hours, new office building

    Cons

    Lack of work forces management to put employees on leave without pay (called standby). Causes nervousness around the workplace and in turn causes lots of people to quit.

    Pros

    Really great people in some cities

    Cons

    Company hates to pay unemployment so they fire by insubordination, even though it's not true. Lay off top people in departments and co-workers treat you like "out of sight, out of mind", they're miserable too. Company bought by another company, future is uncertain. Pay is lower than competitors. You know what's expected of you, overworked, not respected and not an individual.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I hope AECOM pays better and hires managers who know that a happy worker is a productive worker and everyone looks good. Current manager has power trips and is sadistic. Loves to permanently sit feuding people next to each other. Has knee-jerk answer of "no". Threatens to fire anyone who doesn't back her up and lies all the time. There was no growth potential. I got out because HR didn't want to be unbiased or a mediator.

    I have been working at URS a company of AECOM full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    I worked for URS as middle management for about a year, before needing to step down from my position to care for my family. Having been in my career over 20 years, I have had plenty of experience with publicly-held science and engineering companies. URS manages to obtain some good talent in their various departments, and does try to engage staff in morale-boosting activities.

    Cons

    The leadership at URS is extremely poor and I was constantly appalled at the ruthless and disrespectful behavior of their management. URS is only about making profit for their shareholders, and shows very little concern for their employees or their development. Since leaving URS, I have never recommended to anyone that has asked me to apply for a position with this company.

    Pros

    Easy interview, they talked a good game. They contacted me because prior history with company and experience was spot on with their requirements.

    Cons

    Your experience means nothing when they appoint friends and associates to positions without proper regard to their OVER qualifications and recruiters get caught in lies by blaming their hiring decisions on the GOVERNMENT because they know what's employees are best suited to work for URS right??????

    If you always did what you always done, then you'll always get what you always got.......high turnover rates through out URS because the wrong individuals are consistently put into leadership positions with ZERO leadership qualifications.

    Pros

    URS does offer good benefits. Also, there are decent people who work here. I can count them on one hand, but they are there.

    Cons

    -managers and team leads simply do not know how to effectively manage workloads, how to facilitate team work, or solve problems between team members.
        -what they are good at doing are yearly reviews that seek to tear down their own employees in an effort to make themselves look better

    -URS holds no loyalty to long time, dedicated employees. After ‘a reduction in force’ layoff, we are assured that we are eligible to apply for other open positions in the company. BUT what’s not said is that you will never even be considered, despite the fact that you are 100% qualified. You are quietly black balled for whatever reason they can come up with.

    -Everything is about SLA’s and numbers. We are robots that produce numbers for the managers to stare at all day. Essentially, it’s not the quality of work, it’s the quantity. And while they stare at the numbers and preach about quality and team work, there is NO quality or teamwork present.
        -The new art work around the office these days is everyone’s SLA’s—in effect shaming the teams who are not meeting them.

    -Advice for Future Employees: trust no one, 99% of the people will stab you in the back so they can step over you in their effort to get a millimeter higher in the social circles that run this place. Unhappiness is the URS way of life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    -open your office door, stop staring at your numbers and reports, and step out of your hidey hole. I’ve seen managers arrive at URS who are motivated, have good ideas, and generally are positive and happy. About a year later, like clockwork, they have turned into a constantly closed door, negative, and unhappy person. It’s quite apparent that the top man in the office perpetuates this mentality.

    -its quite clear that URS is extremely top heavy. Weed out the excessive managers and team leads who don't do anything but occupy a management title, yet still don't know how to perform basic duties.

    -do away with the Great Place To Work program—it’s laughable. The goofy certificates, “suggestion box”, and quarterly tacos and donuts do not boost morale and make us LIKE working at URS. Change the culture and general mentality of the office and then this might turn into a real great place to work

    Pros

    Good colleagues, big projects and lots of things to learn

    Cons

    This company claims itself as a "good place to work", while it never treats the employees at their valuable assets. Very low pay and bad benefits. Some project manager with 20+ yrs of experiences in this office is a joke: very irresponsible, never show up on time at all meetings, delay other people's projects by literally several months without telling them that she is not capable of delivering her commitment on time. All she can do is pushing others for her own stuff in the last minute. No information sharing or proper project planning at all. I really feel sorry for the hardworking group members in this team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Not much advice. Replace some managers with people who are at least responsible, not to mention having basic management skills.

    Pros

    Good experience, particularly for younger engineers and staff. Interesting and big projects, in some offices. Lots of resources. Decent compensation, commensurate with industry. As long as you're billable, you're OK!

    Cons

    Benefits, company-wide and in the office, were steadily decreased over my 5 years, all to save money.

    Annual reviews are only for show-and-tell, so Management can say they do them to new hires. You'll soon find out they have no real relevance or connection to job performance, compensation, or promotion.

    Career paths are a joke. The only promotions are for people that can bring in new work. You can get promoted to Management if you're a good talker or have a good golf game. Great incubator for the Peter Principal!

    The URS Project Manager Certification program is a joke. Anyone and everyone is a PM sooner or later. Too many wanna' be managers, not enough workers.

    Management has a "Job Shop" mentality. Hire and fire the help at will, as needed!. Don't plan on a career here. You'll be let go as soon as you're unbillable for a few days! No work sharing among offices. Plenty of work in one office; layoffs in another. Expect to be asked to use sick time and vacation to keep you're job, even though you'll still be let go when its used up. This is also against company policy, but Management turns a blind eye when going against policy benefits the bottom line!

    Management talks big to employees about ethics and proper billing for payroll, particularly for Federal work and fear of Federal audits, knows better what the employees are asked to do to keep their jobs!

    Sometimes interesting work, if you are in with your manager.

    Cons

    Terrible technical leadership. If you want to work for a good old boys group, sign up. If you don't play golf, watch out.

    URS does offer decent benefits.

    Cons

    *URS is very top heavy in management, but when layoffs come around, the little people get cut. This coincides with the mentality and culture of overworking the staff who basically processes everything that keeps the company running. Management claims that it’s all about quality work, but in reality they just want their reports to look good. As long as the report looks good (which makes management look good), it doesn’t matter what it takes to get there.

    *‘The 30 year mark of death’: It’s a clear observed pattern that when employees reach 30 years, your targeted for the next round of layoffs. To make matters worse, they tell that you are eligible to apply for other open positions, BUT in reality they will never re-hire you. This is a known fact around the office, and stated multiple times in other reviews. URS would rather hire someone who doesn’t even know what a document number is than keep valued, loyal employee. WHY? Because it’s cheaper and URS holds no loyalty to its employees. We are work horses, and when they are done with you they chuck you to the curb.

    *Communication is abysmal.

    *Politics, politics, politics—it’s all about who you socialize with not the quality of your work you do.

    *Oh, and if that’s not enough, URS just got bought out. NOTHING is certain now. And of course, nothing is communicated properly to the people this affects the most.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    *Step out of your office and communicate with your employees and stop looking at all of your reports. Also learn and maybe even understand what your employees do on a daily basis. We’re not number, we’re people. Start truly appreciating us.

    *Your “Great Place to Work” program is laughable. We are ALL aware that this program is bogus and only a media tool used to recruit new, naive employees and show competitors how much “we love working at URS”. The culture of URS does not in anyway shape or form internally convey that this is a great place to work.

    *You can’t boost moral by bringing in food once a quarter. Is it that hard to genuinely say thank you on a daily basis or take time away from your reports to recognize hard work? Further, why is admitting that your wrong so difficult to do? I’m pretty sure everyone learned to say ‘I’m sorry’ or ‘I made a mistake’ at some point. Apparently, every single team lead or any person in a management position has conveniently forgotten the sentiment, or is too high and mighty to just admit fault.
