I have been working at URS a company of AECOM full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to interact directly with clients, very good stability since the company is so big. People you work with are down to earth.

    Cons

Not too much vertical growth if you are a younger employee. A lot of upper management are there because they are connected with other employees. For the difficulty of work, not too many monetary perks.

    Pros

Seems to adhere to values, integrity
Open and supportive environment, little to know enmity among employees, certainly within the office
    Decent people overall

    Cons

Some middle management are too 'micro', especially in terms of financial performance
Company as a whole is obviously stock-market driven

I have been working at URS a company of AECOM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good life work balance, Pay and benefits are market rate.

    Cons

I've been on several good long term projects, but this is the first place I wanted to stop advancing in my career because I did not want to have to deal with management that I did not respect. Good old boys that need to retire. Could all change over the next 10 years as they do retire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to clean out the good old boys

I worked at URS a company of AECOM full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I worked as a contractor to an operating company and for the most part had little interaction with URS.

    Cons

By not being at URS, when the operating company job ended, I had no postion within URS and was laid off shortly after returning. URS is run as the typical EPC company, driven by projects. Be prepared to located your next job.

I have been working at URS a company of AECOM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting people - many trying to add value. URS is consistently ranked as a top performer in the Architecture & Engineering and in the Federal Government Services industry segments, so fairly steady in-flux of new client contracts coming in and as a result, lots of internal lateral mobility opportunities due to steady large number of new job openings. Also offers a fair amount of paid training opportunities, internal and external. Able to work from home periodically, which is very helpful to work-life balance. Opportunities for promotion vary depending on what division and department you're in, but in general, promotions are available for those who prove themselves over time.

    Cons

No Integrated Talent Management System - separate HR groups in each of the company divisions. So as old contracts end and new ones begin, difficult to see where the talent currently resides in the company and where it is needed. So, over the past 14 months there have been a series of RIFs, affecting both indirect and direct charge employees (although some of these RIFs are the result of the company's stated goal to retire debt from recent acquisitions. Hiring managers need to do better in hiring - for example, they often hire people who have the skills but whose personality prevents productivity in a group and they often write job opening descriptions that sound very appealing (authority+responsibility) but offer a lower than market salary and then the new hire has the responsibility but no authority.

I have been working at URS a company of AECOM as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The temp 3 year job has gone over 6 years. Lots of job extensions. Base pay has been good. Time off policy and ability to bank and buy time off WERE great benefits.

    Cons

Company has been bought out by a peer. Now loosing time off, vacations, 401K match level.
Indications are changes for worse still to come. Company story line is that things will be better.
Managers not able to learn and lead.

Don't force talent out of your employ.
