I have been working at US Air Force full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Education and training, and that really all I can say about the Air Force

    Cons

Worst good old boy system I have seen. I have watched airmen receive awards and promotions that were not worth a damn, but because they golfed with the higher ranks, or hunted, fished, or anything like that they received these awards and promotions irregardless of the technical, management, or leadership abilities.

When I first joined we used to take care of each other. If you were a good airman and made a simple mistake you were forgiven and people fought for you. Now the hang you out to dry as long as it makes an example of you and the person administrating the punishment looks good for doing it, that's all that matters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop MICRO-MANAGING and let your junior NCO do what Airman Leadership School and Non-Commissioned Officer School teaches them to do. Also stop relying on that one airman that is good at the job, give the other lower ranking airman a chance to shine and become the one airman that you can always count on to do the good troubleshooting and repair. The one you count on now that goes on every TDY, deployment, MRT...that one getting worn out and you are going to drive them to a breaking point.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Better for military members than for civilians. Excellent benefits for military. Benefits for civilians are competitive with other firms, but not as good as many.

    Cons

unethical, incompetent senior leadership and employees; wasteful programs; misogynous culture. If unethical and dishonest, AF career will be well developed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Giving advice to AF management is pointless, futile.

I worked at US Air Force full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Steady, transparent paycheck and pay scale.

    Cons

Quality of life is horrendous. Active duty employees are treated like nothing but expendable pawns. Do not believe anything a USAF recruiter says. Once you enter the USAF, never forget that the Department of Defense owns you and will make you feel that way until the day you leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Press the reset button. Like many other federal government agencies, the USAF has become nothing but a bureaucratic nightmare eating itself alive. Sadly, in addition, there is a genuine lack of leadership at all levels in the USAF. Employees have lost trust in management and spend most of their time protecting themselves. If it weren't for our precious taxpayer dollars, this organization would have crumbled long ago.

I worked at US Air Force

    Pros

    -Free (really awful) medical coverage
-Plenty of ways to avoid working
-Discounted hotel, movie, and other rates with military ID

    Cons

-You're a cog in the machine
-No thought at all is given to personal life
-The government, literally, owns you for as long as you're committed to staying in
    -Environment is horrible
    -And pretty much everything else

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more concern for personnel's personal/home life.
