ProsTravel benefits are amazing! Co workers are great! Employees all get along very well, fun atmosphere where everyone is like a family.

ConsManagement is horrible! They only look out for themselves. While I worked there me and many of my coworkers were paid just above poverty level. CEO and company execs, fought over giving us raises. While they reaped millions in annual bonuses.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe business is a people business, take better care of your human capitol

    Great until the merger

    Lead Analyst II (Current Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsCurrent usairways employees are great. Flight benefits are ok.

ConsThe merger with AA is a disaster, cultures are far too different and AA personnel look down to the Usairways employees

Advice to Senior ManagementShould have stuck with a winning solution in It instead of an IT organization that brought AA into bankruptcy, would not surprise me if it went that way once more.

    ProsGood company, fair benefits period

Consmiddle managers most treat their employees as lackeys
In my observation most came from the floor and only achieved management status only by being major ass kissers. No skills especially no people skills or .That is why I left after a year.
Tired of the B/S. Plus every time you ask a legitimate question you would rarely receive an answer period!

Advice to Senior ManagementTeach your middle management how to deal with the heartbeat of any company. Respect you're employees and they in turn will respect you. maybe if attitudes change people will be more productive .

    Great benefits - terrible job.

    Reservations Agent (Current Employee)
    Tempe, AZ

ProsBenefits, various vendor discounts, relatively clean, colleagues

ConsManagement, hours, disorganized training program, sad/scared morale

Advice to Senior ManagementGet organized and make sure you know the answers when trainees ask questions. Find out versus give a quick incorrect answer. Don't take your employees for granted and be respectful of the people you stand upon.

    It's a job

    Lead Analyst (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsFlight benefits. Decent salary as long as you came with a lot of experience.

ConsMid-level management is horrible. They treat employees like grunts in the military. With no "standard" for remote work, some groups allow telecommute while others outright ban it.
There is no training - unless you are a Sr Manager or higher - and practically zero chance for advancement.
Most projects are painfully slow-moving. Hurry up and wait mentality is in-play. Mostly that's due to low profit and carefully watched budgets. Yet you have senior management that goes missing for a week at a time for retreats and such.
Worst of all, the company has boasted top scores from HRC on the corporate equality index, yet employees hide in the closet and are subjected to gay jokes and comments. They claim to have diversity training, but that's rarely even mentioned.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen the CEO is willing to do whatever it takes, the rest of management should too. Stop acting like little dictators. That doesn't motivate.
Just because someone has been an employee for 10+ years, they shouldn't be automatically given the authority to do less work. There are plenty of people contributing 1/2 effort.

Systems Engineering and Operations in USAIT is a broken department

    Systems Operations (Current Employee)
    Tempe, AZ

ProsFinally catching up to current technologies and getting rid of older hardware

ConsUnderwent a re-org where they brought in 2 new managers from Mattel and tossed out a loyal senior manager. Loyalty is non-existent. Arbitrarily assigned UNIX engineers to operations and demoted multiple people throughout the department. 10 minutes of notice was given and it was very poorly handled. They are replacing tried and true technologies with just whatever they used at Mattel. The department has becoming a running joke in meetings with other IT groups.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote from within. Just because somebody worked at Mattel doesn't make them more qualified than a good in-house candidate.

    Sr. Analyst

    Senior Analyst (Current Employee)
    Tempe, AZ

ProsFlight benefits if you can get on a flight, health benefits are great and in general the people that work there.

ConsPay is the biggest con, especially if you stay with the company and climb the ranks. You can turn down a job only to have them hire someone off the street and start them with more money. Better to get the experience on a resume then go elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour best employees want to stay with the company, so pay them the value they produce, not simply a certain percentage increase if they get promoted.

A company and CEO so obsessed with growth and personal gain it will leave an entire workgroup stuck at 2003 wages.

    Flight Attendant (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsFlight benefits are great. Health benefits were very good.

ConsCorporate culture is horrible. It's very negative and they don't pretend to think of you as anything more than a number.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet that contract finished already! How is it possible that it has been 10 years without any kind of cost of living increase for so many? How is it possible that so many people are working under antiquated work rules and systems? Make it happen.
