    Pros

Great pay, great benefits, work at home, flexible schedule, ride sharing. They really try to accommodate your needs and if you don't mind cubicle farms, it's a great place to work.

    Cons

There are some bad apples out there who will try to tell you that the work environment isn't great, or that management doesn't care and doesn't do anything to improve said work environment. The truth is, some people thrive on complaining, and the union is unfortunately headed by one of those people. Management is open to suggestions and always willing to listen. The union, on the other hand, is passive-aggressive, aggressive-aggressive, and confrontational. Steer clear of the negative nancys who have nothing better to do than complain, and you'll be fine.

  2. I worked there as an intern and had a good experience

I worked at US Citizenship and Immigration Services as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of writing, so you'll be able to add to your writing sample. And they give you a tour of some of the other immigration agencies, so it was a good introduction to immigration work for the federal government.

    Cons

They didn't have a good place for the externs to work. We were all in the same room, and sometimes it was hard to get work done.

I'm not doing the same type of work I was before, which is business analysis, staffing analysis and budget formulation and analysis.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Had two great internships at USCIS -- learned a lot and met many inspiring people. Would love to work for them as a permanent employee.

    Cons

Typical government red-tapey issues, some old technology, etc. Occasionally felt underutilized as a student intern, but it was overall a very positive experience.

    Advice to Management

Please use your students more! We're very eager to contribute to your work and mission!

    Pros

Growing fast in terms of bringing people on board, and a lot of opportunities are available to learn within the organization. Training seems to be a priority and has management support. Many ideas are nutured and may become implemented based on merits...

    Cons

Because of the fast growth many internal operations are undefined and flying by the seat of your pants is not that uncommom. There are not clear process for the simple things and that also means there are not clear processes or procedures for the difficult as well. Many times a majority of ones time is spent defining not what needs to be done, but how it should be done and without any clear guidance or process.

    Advice to Management

Ensure the simple stuff is defined and that a clear process is developed for doing those simple things...
